@paf31 What are some examples of monads which are not tail recursive? That is, which monads don't have a valid MonadRec implementation? I would like to know this in order to develop a better understanding of what makes a monad tail recursive.
💖 I'm sponsoring @uhyo_ because he's the author of the excellent better-typescript-lib library, https://t.co/oPwwf1pQ1L, which provides improved built-in type definitions for #TypeScript. https://t.co/bdOJuagSiK
I’d much rather live in a society where everyone has healthcare, housing, and food than a society where 3 billionaires own more wealth than half the nation.
@BenLesh Actually, I hate the observable type itself. I firmly believe that it's the wrong abstraction to use. I would advise using something like ListT<Promise, T> instead of Observable<T>. Here, ListT is the list monad transformer. It's much safer & it's a purely functional abstraction.
Today, I'm proud to announce the birth of my new parser combinator library - Syntactics, https://t.co/eWFpvWTzOk. This library has been in development for a few months. It's still a baby as it only has the core features implemented. However, I have a lot planned for its future.

@yminsky (continued) Most importantly I love teaching. I am teaching programming to people of all ages, ranging from children to industry professionals. I have spent a lot of time learning about learning theories like Constructionism. I have also read Mindstorms by Seymour Papert of MIT.
@yminsky This looks like my dream job. I am a functional programmer. I completed my masters degree in Computer Science with a specialization in programming languages from Indiana University Bloomington. I was also a teaching assistant. I'm in the top 0.25% of users on Stack Overflow.
@yminsky If you're interested in programming languages then Indiana University Bloominton and Northwestern University are great choices. IUB has professors Dan Friedman, Amr Sabry, Sam Tobin-Hochstadt, Ryan Newton, and Jeremy Siek to name a few. Princeton University has prof Andrew Appel.
@yminsky Look at the professors in each university. Find professors who have knowledge in the field that you're interested in. For example, I went to Indiana University Bloomington because the professors there were focused on functional programming and programming language research.
I am teaching #FunctionalProgramming in #JavaScript for anybody who wants to learn. If you are a beginner then I'll start with the basics. If somebody you know would like to learn programming then please share this with them. Would love it if you could spread the word. Thank you.
I'm excited to share my first new book (or e-book) in over five years! Understanding JavaScript Promises explains not just how promises work but also how to use them in the real world.
