Eternal shame has no place in a healthy society, shame makes people more dangerous. Some of y'all seem to want society ruled by trauma more than you care about positive outcomes. Oddly Christian attitude of you, what do you think drives culture of silence?
If we’re taking about a portal situation, most people who ended up back in the Middle Ages would get put into work as a clerk/scribe once their literacy was established.
Though there would be confusion over the fact that these strange literate people had terrible penmanship.
That bi men discourse came up right around the Cornell rape case has me thinking of the years where people have been saying that actually frat guys are far less a danger to women around them than self identified male feminists or soft boys and im just wondering who that was for
I want to complicate this picture a little bit: This may be hard to believe, but Staten Island is the *only* borough where the net immigrant population *increased* over the last decade. A quarter of Staten Islanders are immigrants. This is from a recent city report. It is no doubt still the most conservative of the five, but this idea (among both the right and the left) that it’s forever 1985 there is simply false.
@AngryVoter2024@TheGreatGario@Jcd4023 Neither do you. Given that, the reasonable position is to withhold judgment, not presume that she does want all this.
the public having unrestricted access to the sex offender registry when sex workers are placed on it in some states for the crime of being alive and 13 year-old children have been placed on it for hugging another child too much is unambiguously something you should be against
@BEASTgroyper once again i feel a fool for not paying attention to the profile name of someone arguing this shit. fuck off and die in a fire you fucking fascist
this is the real core of it all to me. either you think someone like Gellar is a person (and all that entails), or you think that his crime(s) disqualify him from personhood. and the latter do not actually care about justice, they want vengeance.
@dduhnzoe@ZEA5U5 You start to realize literally the only tenable ethical position is to acknowledge people who do awful things as complex individuals who are worthy of the time it takes to try to change their behavior because we have mountains of evidence to show “punishment “deters no one
@ricewtr i mean if you really believe that everyone with any sort of public presence should be a saint, fine. i think that’s ridiculous and completely disconnected from moral reality. i’m not arguing he deserves your attention.
@BEASTgroyper this some waffles and pancakes shit lmao. i have never said anything about your obligation to keep watching him. ive said repeatedly i won’t. but keep making up shit to make you feel better i guess
@ricewtr i mean it’s the world we live in, as awful as it is.
as far as your second sentence, if you think i’m defending what he did, you’re either illiterate or deliberately ignoring the substance of my tweets. i have never said he’s Rehabilitated, nor that you should keep watching him
@HighCope what would an “actual” punishment be? why and how would that be better than what actually happened?
like even leaving aside the fact that i do not think “punishment” is basically ever a good way to approach justice. but i recognize most people don’t agree with me on that.
