I have just learnt that Senator Cyrus Jirongo passed away last December in a motor accident. I was not aware that he had died.
This is very sad. Jirongo was a good and patriotic leader who served his country with dedication. We shall miss him. My condolences go to his family, relatives, friends and the people of Kenya. May his soul rest in peace.

Another chastening night against Brentford simply reinforced how early Chelsea are in their Xabi Alonso build, and how little margin for error they have against Premier League opponents this smart and this well coached.

Chelsea’s attacking verve did not survive the absence of Joao Pedro against Brentford, while their midfield cannot sustain itself without Moises Caicedo. Reece James not being available, which has been a semi-regular fact of life over the last few years, was also felt here.

Judging by some of his tactical decisions, Alonso is also still casting around for combinations and alignments that work.

This team is nowhere near a certainty for Champions League qualification this season, if the last four years of the BlueCo era had not already hammered that home. This prolonged international break comes at a good time, to clear heads, refresh bodies and find some solutions.
