Junta troops reportedly arrested 10 villagers from Hnit Ka Yin Village, Ye Township, Mon State, and used them as human shields during military operations in the area, according to local residents.
On June 9, a junta military column entered Hnit Ka Yin Village and detained 10 local residents, including a man with a mental health condition. Local sources said the villagers were taken by the troops and used as human shields as the column moved through the area.
“In Hnit Ka Yin, 10 villagers were taken as human shields, including a man with mental illness. They have not been released yet, and their whereabouts are still unknown,” said a local resident.
As of the latest information received by HURFOM’s frontline documentation team, the detained villagers had not yet been released. Although the junta troops have since withdrawn from the village, families and community members remain deeply worried because they still do not know where the villagers are being held or whether they are safe.
Local residents said the recent military operation followed the killing of Saw Lwin, a ward administrator who lived near the train station in Hnit Ka Yin Village. He was shot and killed on May 19. Since then, junta forces have continued conducting area-clearance operations in and around Hnit Ka Yin.

A coalition of local People Defense Forces (PDFs) launched the Operation 9 aimed at countering the junta regime's military presence. This operation resulted in the successful seizure of the Myitche police station, leading to the arrest of 65 junta security personnel and the elimination of at least 40 of their operatives in Pakokku township of Magway division, Myanmar on 06 June 2026.
The catalyst for this coordinated response was the junta army's offensive, which commenced on May 2 along the Pakokku-Mandalay highway which inflicted significant harm, resulting in the killing of over 50 villagers, including children, while many individuals remain unaccounted for.
Standing in solidarity, local PDFs united to orchestrate Operation 9 as a powerful counterattack in response to the junta's violence. This mission not only dismantled a key outpost of the regime but also successfully took 65 personnel as prisoners of war. Additionally, six junta police members recognized the futility of their situation and surrendered to PDFs.
