After 11 years as a sports columnist at the Seattle Times, I have decided to resign. It was entirely my choice, and it was not an easy one. The impetus was the Times declining to run a column I wrote from the perspective of two female student athletes who were opposed to competing against biological males. It was one of several pieces of mine that had been spiked, and I no longer felt like I could properly do my job as a columnist. Ziv Abud was at the Nova Music Festival, just like Eliya, and survived by hiding in a pile of bodies.

Dit is een grafiek van de oorlogsslachtoffers in Gaza, op basis van Hamas-cijfers. Ga ervan uit dat alle vrouwen burgerslachtoffers zijn. Ga ervan uit dat er net zoveel mannelijke als vrouwelijke burgerslachtoffers zijn. Dan is de verhouding strijder-burger onder de slachtoffers 1:1,5.

De grootste database ter wereld over zulke situaties is van het Uppsala Conflict Data Program. Die geeft voor conflicten in grote stedelijke gebieden een gemiddelde van 1:2. Een groter percentage burgerslachtoffers dus dan in Gaza.

Dit zou voor altijd voldoende moeten zijn om beschuldigingen van genocide in Gaza van tafel te vegen. Uiteraard kun je erover discussiëren of het gerechtvaardigd is dat Israël tegen Hamas blijft vechten zolang die zich niet overgegeven heeft of ontwapend is. (Voor de duidelijkheid: ik vind het wel.) Maar dat is echt iets anders.

Maar de vrijwel exclusieve aandacht voor deze oorlog; de vrijwel exclusieve morele verontwaardiging over deze oorlog; en vooral het ter verantwoording roepen van niet-Israëlische joden overal ter wereld over deze oorlog: dat is zo diep onlogisch. Dat is antisemitisme.

I am bewildered, and not very impressed, by the visceral, naked, irrational hatred spat out by some defenders of Jason Arday. If a Cambridge professor is accused of being an unqualified charlatan, the accusation might be racially motivated. On the other hand it might not, depending on the evidence. The correct question to ask is not, ”What is the colour of his skin” but “Is it in fact true that he is an unqualified charlatan?” Please examine the evidence before leaping to the assumption of racism.
As for the idea that journalists “piled in on him” and “hounded him to his death”, most attacks were against Cambridge University. Jason himself was widely regarded as an unfortunate victim of foolish promotion way beyond his ability to cope. In appointing him to a professorship for which he was manifestly unqualified – in ludicrously describing him as “the best in the world” – certain senior members of the university showed a level of patronising condescension towards black people that could fairly be described as racism, while at the same time making him tragically vulnerable to such attacks as came his way.

Zu meiner letzten Kolumne zu der Frage, ob ein Fall wie Jason #Arday auch an deutschen Universitäten geschehen könnte, bekomme ich ungewöhnlich viel Resonanz.

Viele Professoren und wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter schreiben mir. Sie erzählen davon, wie sehr in Berufungsverfahren Gender- und Diversity-Denken Leistungskriterien überlagern. Wie diese „#Diversität“ zu einer weitgehenden Einfalt bei Perspektiven und Inhalten führt. Und wie auch inoffizielle Mechanismen, etwa ein vorauseilender Gehorsam bei Forschungsanträgen, dazu führen, dass bestimmte Themen kaum noch bearbeitet, viele Forschungshypothesen gar nicht mehr formuliert werden.

Our family is going through a time of profound shock and grief.

The announcement of Hayden’s tragic death saddens me deeply. She left this world far too soon. Hayden was, although no longer my partner, an important part of my life and the mother of our daughter, Kaya.

She built an incredible career through immense talent, while also facing the darker sides of a very demanding industry. Nothing will erase the times we shared or the place she had in our lives.

To our daughter Kaya, I will always speak of her mother with respect and make sure she remembers the person she was.

I extend my deepest condolences to Hayden’s parents, her friends, and her fans, who are also grieving today. Young and talented people like Hayden should not leave this world so soon.

I ask everyone to please respect our family’s feelings and privacy during this incredibly difficult time. For now, this is all I wish to say.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting my family and expressing their sincere condolences.

Speaker (Islam Net): These are general views that every Muslim actually has. Every Muslim believes in these things. Just because they are not telling you about it doesn't mean they don't believe in that.

Bill Maher: Vast numbers of Christians do not believe that if you leave the Christian religion, you should be killed for it.

Vast numbers of Christians do not treat women as second-class citizens. Vast numbers of Christians do not believe that if you draw a picture of Jesus Christ, you should get killed for it.

But most Muslim people in the world do condone violence just for what you think.
Charlie Rose: How do you know that?

Bill Maher: First of all, they say it. There's a Pew poll of Egypt from a few years ago: 82%, I think it was, said stoning is the appropriate punishment for adultery; over 80% thought death was the appropriate punishment for leaving the Muslim religion.

Charlie Rose: Well, I do.

Bill Maher: So to claim that this religion is like other religions is just naive and plain wrong. It is not like other religions.

Charlie Rose: I don't think the Quran teaches them to do these kind of

This is such a tragic story. Jason Arday was indeed a victim of racism — not from the media who scrutinized his record, but from @Cambridge_Uni administrators and every institution and academic that enabled this deeply troubled con man, lowered the bar for him, elevated him to dizzying heights, and paraded him as proof of their own virtue, all because he happened to have the "right" skin color (and alleged neurodivergence).

The @nytimes story is surprisingly good, holding Cambridge to account for the perverse role they played in all of this.

was auch zeigt wie sehr sich die veröffentliche #Meinung nach links gedreht hat, während die #Gesellschaft konservativer wurde, ist die Tatsache das vor 20 jahren Aussagen zu #Evolution , #Partnerwahl , #Einkommen von Mann und Frau und #Kinderzahl auch für die meisten linken Mileus kein Problem waren. Dann galten sie "öffentlicht" für lange Zeit als teilweise unsagbar, potentiell diskriminieren, usw.
Eine enorme Kluft zwischen veröffentlichter Meinung und der öffentlichen Meinung, die dazu führte, dass die Realität medial nicht mehr abgebildet wurde.
