At #HRC63, Ambassador Dr. Salma Rasheed delivered a statement during the Item 10 General Debate, highlighting that technical assistance and capacity building remain indispensable to advance the promotion and protection of human rights, particularly for States with limited institutional and financial capacities such as SIDS and LDCs.
She expressed appreciation to the donors that sustain the efforts of OHCHR, the LDC/SIDS Trust Fund and the UPR Voluntary Fund and encouraged continued and, where possible, strengthened contributions to programmes that provide responsive, and needs based assistance, particularly to SIDS and LDCs.

The Maldives participated in the Heads of Delegation Retreat of the Cartagena Dialogue held in Sydney, Australia from 1 to 3 October 2026. Director General Mr. Amjad Abdulla and Senior Environment Management Officer Ms. Aishath Reesha Suhail represented the Maldives in this meeting, where discussions are focused on preparations and priorities for the upcoming Pre-COP31 and COP31.
The gathering is a progressive meeting of countries working together towards ambitious outcomes in international climate change negotiations.

State Minister Abdul Razak Ibrahim attended the inaugural ceremony marking the introduction of Para Shooting in the Maldives.
The Shooting Association of Maldives, in collaboration with the Maldives Paralympic Committee, is working to introduce Para Shooting as a new category in this year’s National Shooting Championship, creating greater opportunities for athletes with disabilities to participate in competitive shooting.
The small ceremony was held at the Shooting Range of the Hulhumalé Sports Complex and was attended by Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, H.E. Ishigami Rumiko, and Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Japan, H.E. Ahmed Mahloof.
Minister Rafiu attended the Flag Bearer Ceremony and T-shirt handover for the 5th Asian Para Games 2026.
Fathimath Ibrahim and Abdul Razzaq Abdul Samad were announced as the Maldives’ flag bearers for the Games.
The ceremony was graced by H.E. Rumiko Ishigami, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, along with key officials from the Embassy of Japan, the Ministry, and the Maldives Paralympic Committee.
