I've been using Codex in production lately, and honestly...

It's become a very serious competitor to Claude Code.

I was already comfortable with Claude Code, but the latest Codex releases have made me rethink the default choice.

What I'm liking:

→ Stronger autonomous workflows
→ Better at taking a task and actually running with it
→ Great repo-level context
→ Multiple agents/workflows are becoming much more practical
→ The overall agent experience keeps getting better

I wouldn't say “Codex replaces Claude Code.”

But I will say this:

The gap is getting very interesting.

I'm going to keep using both in production and see which one wins for different types of engineering work.

One of the biggest lessons I learned from a recent Senior Frontend interview:

Knowing the technology isn't enough.

I could answer React questions.
I could discuss architecture.
I could solve technical problems.

But at a senior level, interviewers aren't only asking:

“Can you write the code?”

They're also asking:

→ Why did you choose this approach?
→ What trade-offs did you consider?
→ What would you do differently?
→ How do you handle disagreement?
→ Can you communicate a decision clearly?

The higher you go, the less the interview is about syntax.

It's about judgment.

That experience changed how I'm preparing for interviews now.

Not just learning more technology.

Learning to explain why.

Something about AI and junior developers worries me.

We're telling freshers:

“Don't worry about learning everything. AI can write the code.”

But how do you become a good engineer if you never struggle through the bugs?

How do you learn architecture if AI makes every decision for you?

How do you develop debugging instincts if you never get stuck?

The scary part isn't AI writing code.

It's a generation of developers who can ship an AI-generated app...

…but can't explain why it works.

Use AI.

Absolutely.

Just don't let AI skip the part where you learn to think like an engineer.

Honestly mine's way simpler than an order book — it's just a realtime pricing + news feed. So on disconnect I just reconnect with backoff and refetch the latest prices from REST. There's no state to reconcile really, the new data just overwrites the old. I keep the last prices visible while reconnecting so it doesn't flash blank, but that's about it. If I were building an actual order book though, I'd probably do something similar to what you described — buffer the last known state client-side, grab a full snapshot on rejoin, and queue any deltas that come in during the gap so nothing gets dropped. That sounds like the right call for anything where ordering and consistency actually matter.

Anthropic says future Claude models will generate text with a watermark that can help determine whether Claude was involved in producing it.

The interesting part?

You won't see it.

It works by subtly influencing word choices without changing the meaning or quality of the response.

Anthropic says this is part of its effort to comply with the EU AI Act.

But this raises a bigger question:

Should AI-generated text be detectable by default?

I’ve found that giving an agent the architecture, constraints, conventions and “why” upfront often matters more than the prompt itself.

Hot take:

Most developers don't need another AI coding tool.

They need to learn how to give AI better instructions.

Bad prompt → AI writes code.

Good context + constraints + architecture → AI becomes a serious engineering partner.

The skill isn't “knowing how to use Claude.”

It's knowing what to delegate, what to verify, and what never to trust blindly.
