This shit is so fucking scummy man. No duh numbers are low, no body wants a code in a box. But they 100% did this on purpose so they could report "low retail sales" to then further push the fact that physical is a dying market to then push the all-digital future.
When you learn about how much EA just did not give a fuck about Dragon Age, it's honestly nothing short of a miracle that Bioware managed to make 4 games in the series
The Outer Worlds 2 game director responded to the Xbox layoffs this week and "cold take artists" online "running their mouths" about Obsidian Entertainment.
"Is Obsidian the same as it was 20 years ago?" he wrote. "No, of course not. Nothing stays the same. But the DNA at Obsidian is the same as it always was. The same DNA that created KotOR, New Vegas, NWN2, and Stick of Truth. I'm extremely proud of our history and I am also excited for who we have become."

Two things can be true
1) The decision probably made perfect executive brain sense on paper
2) Gutting one of the most beloved studios of all time after a generational run of 3 of the best shooters of all time is fucking stupid
> None
Josh Sawyer and John Gonzales are there (NV)
Leonard Boyarsky and Tim Cain are there (Fallout 1)
If you're going to use the Ship of Theseus argument, you might want to check more than using gut feelings for fun.
Avellone is gone, but NV is not a 1man show.
Every time Obsidian is brought up, I'm reminded that most gamers don't care about the artform of making games and letting devs do new and cool things.
"Didn't sell well, zero value; but please give me more of the slop I know"
What's worse about the layoffs at ID Software is that DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations is by far the greatest piece of DOOM content the studio has ever produced, and instead of celebrating this milestone, here we are all in utter disbelief.
What a damn tragedy.
I truly don't think Microsofts executive division was informed on the cuts they made that well. Asking for more games...faster... that use the idtech engine and then axing a large portion of the team that works on that engine is a incredibly confusing and frustrating decision.
