Here is my last point on Kimmel. If Kimmel came on and apologized like this the day after his remarks he probably wouldn’t have been suspended. But by all accounts he wanted to double down. Again for the billionth time this isn’t a free speech issue. He works for Mickey Mouse on NETWORK TV. Nobody said he was going to jail. He was dealing with the consequences of making off color jokes about the murder of a guy who meant a ton to a ton of people and blamed it on the very people who love him the most before the body was even cold. So yeah there was outrage that Mickey had to deal with. Then the pendulum swung the other way and they put him back on air. Either way it was never a free speech issue. When you work for somebody else and you offend a ton of people you deal with the consequences. Him framing this as free speech is a joke.

The race footage in the Amazon Earnhardt doc is so badass. Visually incredible. A symphony of speed. It felt different back then. Grittier.

Maybe because it wasn't so readily available as it is now. Maybe because there was a sense to us that NASCAR gave shine to rural America, authentically Southern, something we kinda knew about all along that the rest of the world was just discovering. Like we were on the leading rough edge of a new frontier.

The personalities and the conflict and the refusal to back down. Rivalries that didn't end with a text message apology. They lasted years. Books with chapters.

There was a mystique about speed back then, too.
We've lost that a bit. We forget drivers are gladiators. It takes a special cat to sail it off into 1 at 200 mph with no guarantee you'll come out of Turn 2.

NASCAR is experiencing a rebirth right now. I watch every race and I feel the resurgence. Awesome racers wrestling a challenging machine. But that footage from the 90s put me in a nostalgic blender.

Those motors at full song. The suspension travel and the body shapes and Goodwrench and DuPont and Quality Care and Kellogg's and MGD and Coors Light, stopped me in my tracks.

It all felt so important. Motorsports Mozart.

He's spot on. The ideological diversity of the average American university resembles that of North Korea. This must change.

Spent quite a bit of time watching college baseball this weekend. I will only watch a select few teams from here on out. Reason? They have coaches that respect the game and their opponents and demand the same of their players. Any team that doesn’t wear the uni correctly, taunts the other team, and has a coach that condones this behavior, is a disgrace to the game. Big fan of coach Schnall at Coastal Carolina! Him and his team represent what college baseball should be like. Well done, sir! U stand for proper behavior.
