The Schaefer and Martin families were in attendance to present him with the Calder Memorial Trophy! #NHLAwards
John Sterling is as much a part of the fabric of the New York Yankees organization as any player. It was an honor to have him call every one of my games during my career and an absolute pleasure to get to know him on a personal basis. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

🚀 @openfx_ raises $94M Series A to rebuild the infrastructure behind global money movement.
We’re excited to partner with @prabhakar2reddy and the OpenFX team alongside @Accel, @atomico, @FactionVC, @northzoneVC and @PanteraCapital.
Cross-border payments still run on decades-old rails:
• 2–5 day settlement times
• 50–150 bps in fees
• $4T+ locked in pre-funded accounts
OpenFX is replacing that system with a new model:
⚡ Near-instant FX settlement (98% < 60 min)
💸 Up to 90% lower costs
🌍 Real-time liquidity across global corridors
The result: $4B → $45B in annualized payment volume in just one year.
This isn’t incremental improvement — it’s a new foundation for how money moves globally.
M13 partner @latifperacha said, "We are always searching for the most exceptional founders building with the largest tailwinds at their back. It is undeniable that stablecoins are transforming global money movement. And it was undeniable from our first meeting that Prabhakar understood both the liquidity dynamics of FX markets and the infrastructure needed to bridge traditional banking with these new rails. OpenFX is already demonstrating what that future looks like: real-time cross-border settlement and capital efficiency for institutions."

What does sweeping floors at 1AM have to do with building lasting advantage?
@CoachDustyMay started his career as a student manager at Indiana University under legendary coach Bob Knight, sweeping floors, unloading buses, and logging VHS tapes. Today, Dusty is a Big Ten head coach known for blending old-school toughness with new-school empathy and analytics.
We often turn to sports to draw venture investing lessons. At our fourth annual VC Summit at @MichiganRoss for students and our tech and VC ecosystem, cohosts @latifperacha and @infoarbitrage chatted with Dusty about the parallels between two professions built on judgment, development, and compounding progress. Here are four that stood out:
1. Talent spotting: The best coaches and investors don’t attend the same camps. They uncover the overlooked or underestimated by showing up where they are.
2. Decision-making: Dusty says he’s more “gut than data” but asks his analytics team to test his hunches. Sometimes there’s no data at all, just conviction and pattern recognition, and he's all right with that. Dusty said, “If my heart and mind go in one direction, it will work.”
3. Resilience: In basketball, the buzzer tells you if you won. In venture, it can take seven plus years. The best learn to manage fear of failure and focus on the next play. "One percent better every day" isn’t just an M13 saying. It’s how lasting advantage is built.
4. Culture fit: Dusty asks, “Who can you stand to be with on a seven-hour bus ride?” At M13, we call it the “airport test.” Curiosity, persistence, and human connection create decisions that compound.
@ShaneBattier showed that data and discipline can amplify instinct, a balance great coaches and investors strive for. For more on sports and venture, check out Shane and @CarterReum's conversation: https://t.co/xmIm4seIG3
How do we decide if a company belongs in our portfolio? These critical questions (shared by @latifperacha in our annual state of venture letter) help us determine an M13 deal:
- Is this a founder with the vision, resilience, and expertise to lead through any market cycle? Domain expertise, life stage, psychology: finding the right person to ride the wave is imperative.
- Are there powerful tailwinds behind this market? Tailwinds can come from breakthroughs in software and technical and regulatory shifts (like stablecoins), or entirely new categories of demand (GLP-1s reshaping obesity medicine, where M13 portfolio company Form Health is leading).
- Can the company ride these waves and expand a market? In early-stage markets, what looks small today can compound into a category-defining opportunity tomorrow.

Excited to share a slightly redacted version of our annual letter to LPs. We touch on the golden era across AI and crypto, how we think about the 2nd and 3rd derivatives of these technologies, and the endless parallels between sports and investing. There is so much movement across the asset class, including the slow disappearance of the letter system (seed, A, B, C). It is all either early stage or growth and it will take active management to generate returns given the level of competition across all of it. Thanks @morgan_blumberg + @markwgrace for being such great thought partners on it.
Ps. The last two installments both led to deals so look forward to hopefully keeping up the trend!

If you think that “open banking experts” 1. Know the basics and 2. Honestly state them, you’d be wrong! So Detective Joe Friday is here (on a Tuesday) for “just the facts” on how it works…
Over half of all global companies experience payroll-processing errors at least once per quarter (per Deloitte). M13 co @niuralHQ just raised a $31M Series A for its agentic AI-powered, full-stack platform that automates payroll, benefits, vendor payments, and compliance in over 150 countries. Congrats to @namibaral, Nabin Banskota, and team!
