Story Seed | Tuesday
With reference to the recent building collapse in Oko, Anambra State, a question found its way into my heart:
Why are we often so quick to distance ourselves from people once they no longer fit the narrative we want to tell?
The institution stated that no current student's life was lost. Yet, many people mourned Vivian, a graduate of the Food Science and Technology Department.
It made me wonder...
When one of our own achieves something remarkable, we proudly call them our student, our alumnus, our own.
But when tragedy strikes, do we become more careful about the connection?
Perhaps this isn't just about institutions.
Perhaps it's about all of us.
The stories we choose to claim—and the ones we quietly let go—reveal more about us than we realise.

🌙 Quiet Time with Zie
A few days ago, I watched a movie starring Tony Umez.
In the movie, Tony played a man who had already died, yet he appeared to be living a normal life. He had a girlfriend, a home, and even a maid. At one point, the maid mysteriously vanished in front of the girlfriend's friend, revealing that she too was dead.
Despite the warning, the girlfriend brushed it aside. Wedding plans continued, and she was already pregnant.
On the day of the introduction, however, the people who claimed to be Tony's family vanished before the eyes of the girlfriend's mother. The father also remarked that Tony's hands—and even the atmosphere around him—felt unusually cold. Alarmed, they advised their daughter to postpone the wedding until they could understand what was truly happening.
Stories like this remind me of other accounts people have shared over the years—stories of individuals who were later discovered to have died long before after starting families of their own, or of people who supposedly appeared to loved ones with one final message before news of their death arrived.
Whether these stories are true, exaggerated, or simply folklore, they always leave me with one question:
What really happens when we die?
As Christians, many of us were taught that after death comes judgment. So when stories like these surface, they naturally raise questions. Were these simply fictional stories? Were they unexplained experiences? Or is there something about death that we simply cannot fully understand from this side of eternity?
I don't claim to have the answers.
I just find myself wondering.
Have you ever experienced—or heard a story like this?
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Until next time...
Take your time. Read. Reflect. 💙✨
