Honored to speak with the WMATA infrastructure interns, GM and others yesterday as we walked through our Tunnel Leak Mitigation construction site near Forest Glen Station. They saw our contractor, Sovereign Hydroseal East, Inc.,WMATA Inspectors and our @wspusa CM team in action!
Toured the 🔴🚇 shutdown w/ this year’s infrastructure interns. Great to see this group get hands on experience on the complex and hard work needed to keep our system safely running. Plus got to say thx to the team for their efforts maximizing this time to get tons done. #wmata
(1/4) Did you know that portions of the Red Line were built below groundwater level? These tunnels are prone to water leaks and service delays. We're conducting curtain grouting to reduce water infiltration and improve reliability through our Tunnel Leak Mitigation Project.
(3/3) This work takes place on nights and weekends between Silver Spring and Forest Glen stations and will move between Tenleytown-AU and Friendship Heights stations this year. Since the work takes place in the off-hours, we’ve included some photos! #wmata#yourmetro
(2/3) The curtain grouting process requires drilling several holes in the tunnel concrete lining at regular spacing along the tunnel alignment and injecting a special grout material that will spread outside the tunnel lining and reduce water from entering. #wmata#yourmetro
I’m proud to be supporting @wmata on this important project as part of the @wspusa PM/CM team to improve the sustainability of the many miles of Metro tunnels for the future.

⚠️We're aware of overwhelming flooding conditions being reported at a number of our NEBT sites due to the heavy rain. This flooding is the problem that the NEBT will reduce once completed in 2023.
As we work to address these locations, pls be safe navigating these areas.⚠️
Testing away from hospitals and dr’s is the key to isolating the virus. State of MD and @GovLarryHogan should use the drive up MVA Vehicle Emission centers for #Covid19 testing. They are already built and you could get them online very soon. @tomrousseyABC7
NEW: How the coronavirus spread so quickly in China. One key misstep: Early on, Chinese authorities only looked for ppl with pneumonia, missing those with milder illness. Possible reason why the virus spread farther and faster. w @gerryshih@emilyrauhala https://t.co/r3V1j4eHno
