Hydrophone deployment last week with @MER_Lab_CY to monitor the impact of fish farms around Cyprus - nothing better than fieldwork on a gorgeous day & even a loggerhead passing by while we worked!
Drone footage captures a female Loggerhead Turtle encountering a Tiger Shark, and the resilient turtle adeptly employs its carapace to shield itself from the shark's advances.
Following a successful defense, the turtle retaliates by targeting the shark's tail and repelling the threat, showcasing the remarkable survival instincts of this remarkable marine creature~

belated post of a belated expedition but after COVID halted my plans in 2020, in June I was finally able to go out to Mexico to help out with seagrass and turtle research in Akumal Bay, get loads of diving experience, and meet a bunch of incredible people thanks to @opwall π π²π½
This shocking footage taken near #Gigha shows dead flapper skates - which are critically endangered - along with other elasmobranchs. These have been caught as unwanted bycatch by the nets of a prawn trawler & discarded.
How sustainable is your scampi?

I will never understand how the British public are more angry at peaceful protestors trying to save our planet than the Government that is actively contributing to the decline of it.
Grateful to have completed the marine conservation internship at the Whale Shark and Oceanic Research Centre in Γtila, Honduras ππ³ 38 dives later, in love with the island and the amazing marine life you can find in this little area of the Caribbean π π π¦ π¦ οΏ½οΏ½ π‘
you probably have no idea what this animal is
this is the vaquita, the smallest porpoise and also the most endangered
there are only 12 remaining in the whole world, and the fact that no one talks about them makes me so sad. we need to raise awareness and save these creatures!
If youβre ever in Utila, make sure to visit Jasperβs animal shelter where you can take the dogs out on walks every day or just hang out in the cat house (heaven) ft. ali - the sweetheart in the first pic who I had the pleasure of walking this morning π β¨ π
Incredible visit to @Kanahau_utila conservation and research facility yesterday, as well as the limestone cave system home to 6,000 bats where you can find fossilised corals 20m above sea level π¦ πͺΈ

Just because it seems normal, doesn't mean it is. 'Shifting baseline syndrome' describes the gradual acceptance of degraded environmental conditions as the new normal.

Today is the first ever nationwide nurses strike, a badge of shame for the govt.
Nurses are not to blame: they've been burnt out by 12 years of Tory austerity.
The nursing union offered to cancel the strike simply if Ministers sat down to discuss pay. The govt refused.
