Thanksgiving is a Heritage American holiday. It is not a Postwar Consensus holiday.

It is not about general thanksgiving to whichever deity you worship, or having a general spirit of gratitude, but it is rooted in echoing the specific thanks—to the Christian God—offered up by our Protestant Pilgrim ancestors in response to their particular struggles and the deliverance from them in the 17th century.

It’s not a presentist holiday where we merely (primarily) thank God for the things we currently have. Rather, it is a day of remembrance for what God did for our people, our forefathers, those who settled this land and underwent the trials of pioneering, conquering, and advancing Western Civilization to new horizons. God blessed their endeavors, and we partake in the same thanksgiving they offered before us.

Thanksgiving is the quintessential American holiday, and to be an American is to partake in the ethos of Anglo-Protestantism and its roots in America.

We took our little girl to the pumpkin patch for the first time today and it was probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen 😍🎃
