I spotted this female monarch depositing her eggs on a milkweed pod. On the right is a closeup of one of her eggs. This is a first for me, I thought they only left eggs on the underside of leaves! Her eggs are camouflaged because of similar looking bumps on the pod. Smart mama!
I’ve never seen a pair of monarchs mating until today. These 2 chased each other all around the yard & ended up on some milkweed. When I snuck over they took off and i got one terrible pic as they flew away. They both returned later and chilled out in the yard.

Sometimes the smallest milkweed can be hosting a monarch caterpillar. This little loner milkweed is a good 10 feet away from a big patch of mature milkweed. Lo & behold there was a little dude chomping away! 🤩
@frogrob I should probably bring it in. The ants are ruthless & they might pick it off. I’ve put some ant baits between the milkweed that have thinned them out a bit but still …
