This is beautifully written. Always remember that if you are lost in a forest with no food, insects and small animals are your only bet in terms of food. Most plants will kill you. Humans have spent the last 10,000 years painstakingly genetically modifying plants (via artificial selection) to create a few hundred varieties that won’t kill us (we call these “food”). Eating random fruits in a forest is the quickest way to die.

To paraphrase the “dish of the day” bovine in Douglas Adams’ Restaurant at the End of the Universe when Arthur Dent opts for a salad - “we finally breed an animal that wants to be eaten, and now you want a green salad. I know some plants that might disagree”

So the biker dude thought this couple of just another 'north Indian' bakras to be intimidated. Didn't bargain for the thrashing he got.

As for those outraging over the IAF officer thrashing the chap, well, had this been other way around, people would've paid homilies, said sweet nothings and moved-on.

The officer (or whoever else would've been in his place) would've carried the scars of the beating at the hands of the locals for the rest of his life.

Remember, what happened in Patiala? The Army Officer got thrashed, had his arm broken, his self respect trampled upon, the police is supposedly investigating the matter, officer's wife is leading a civil agitation against the violent act and the public has moved-on.

Instead if the army had got hold of those police offers and put the fear of god into them, there would've been hue and cry from usual sources, including Indian public but the matter would've been solved. And future aggressors deterred.
