Sharjeel Imam started the Shaheen Bagh protest, yet he never claimed credit for it. He never occupied the stage and instead managed everything from the sidelines.

Once the movement had gained momentum, he left to help organize protests elsewhere because his priority was the cause and his people, not the limelight.

In contrast, the CJP organisers occupy the centre stage 24/7 and hardly let anyone else take it. If someone else becomes more visible than them, they accuse that person of trying to hijack the protest.

We are watching 2,500+ young men picked up in 24 hours under a phrase, "detained for questioning", that appears in no statute and carries no safeguard.

And in the night, two homes were blown up.

One of them had been demolished last year, rebuilt, and lived in for barely a few months.

The Supreme Court has held punitive demolition without due process unconstitutional.
