The Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) was held in New York last week, bringing together Ministers, Chiefs of Police and senior representatives of regional and international policing organisations. Discussions focused on strengthening international peace and security, and cooperation in fighting transnational crime through national and UN policing.
Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe, delivered the national statement which cited Zimbabwe’s longstanding contributions to UN peacekeeping and reaffirmed commitment to advancing the Women, Peace and Security #WPS agenda. Expressing appreciation for UN Member States’ election of Zimbabwe to the UN Security Council for the 2027/2028 tenure, Minister Kazembe reiterated Zimbabwe’s commitment to continue championing dialogue, partnership and collective solutions to global peace and security challenges. #Zimbabwe #UNCOPS2026 #UNPeacekeeping

At the #UNGA Fourth Committee's General Debate on Decolonisation Items, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Mrs Irene Juru, delivered Zimbabwe's statement on behalf of Ambassador Taonga Mushayavanhu, the Permanent Rep of Zimbabwe to @UN. During the debate, Zimbabwe: -
- expressed disappointment that 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories have yet to realise their right to self-determination halfway through the Fourth International Decade for the Eradication of #Colonialism;
- neo-colonial practices continue to hinder the full development of politically independent States;
-re-affirmed unwavering solidarity with all territories under foreign domination and called for a genuine and irreversible process of decolonisation that restores #sovereignty and #dignity; and

Zimbabwe's @UN Second Committee (Economic and Financial) expert, Margaret Tatenda Chikawa, delivers a statement on behalf of Ambassador Taonga Mushayavanhu, during the General Assembly debate on the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa (IDDA III). The statement commends progress under IDDA III, highlights ongoing constraints, showcases Zimbabwe's achievements, and advocates strategic alignment and collaboration for Africa's next industrial decade.

#Zimbabwe has achieved notable success through #Afreximbank-funded agribusiness initiatives integrating smallholder farmers into value chains, and through renewable programs like the Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa and the Renewable Energy Fund. Challenges cited were high trade costs (especially for landlocked countries), limited energy access, and dependence on raw material exports. The statement, called for the Fourth Industrial Decade for Africa to align with Agenda 2063's second implementation plan (2024-2033) and the Pact of the Future.

This week's session marks the start of the Committee's annual session, focusing on #sustainable development, economic growth and global cooperation.
