@rvaduke I told someone to take JMU over App State and they lost money. Oops. But…I was at a bar in town for the end of the NDSU v USD game and the silence was golden. Maybe that helps?
The agony that is Angel Hernandez’s umpiring has finally come to a close, so what better time to remember his legacy than right now
Some of Angel Hernandez’s worst calls and most iconic moments, a thread🧵
Halfway to 52 books in 2024! I struggle on occasion with award-winning books. This one starts with a lot of character development that was hard for me to get through. The last 3/4 of the book improved as the plot picked up. Harding's books just might not be my thing.
It's time to once again thank @Wootenomics for motivating me to read more. Since meeting and working with him at Penn State, my reading list has grown exponentially. For 2024, my goal is to read a book a week, alternating fiction and non-fiction. Follow 👇for my progress.
I buy two types of souvenirs nowadays, t-shirts from the colleges I visit and books that remind me of the trips I've taken. Today, I'm repping Creighton. I also finished this book about Astor's attempt to establish a fur-trading empire along the Columbia River in the early 1800s.
@AustinBoyleEcon I would also be interested in knowing whether the date of the first missed assignment (maybe the first two) relates to passing the class. Something like...students who miss the first assignment are X more/less likely to pass.
@AustinBoyleEcon Show them the raw data. I did that in 302 to show how the first exam score related to passing the class. It generated a lot of interest in office hours. Almost all that followed my advice passed the class. Just be prepared for one student to try to use it against you.
This book opens with a line I believe in, "There's something liberating about a long run."
Then the zombies show up.
It was impossible to not enjoy sprinting through this story. It's figuratively and literally a nice escape. I'm only mildly ashamed to have found it has a sequel!
I had high hopes for this one. The parts about saving aggressively and controlling how they spend their time were excellent. There were just too many criticisms of how other people choose to arrange work, consumption, and family. FIRE isn't for everyone and that's okay!
My dad talked with me right before I started my first job at 16. Save 10% of everything you make and never touch it. Set your standard of living on what’s left. It’s worked well. Glad I listened. Wish I’d thanked him while he was still alive.
