We hear a lot about "world's richest man" stuff all the time as corporate/finance bros fight it out.
Who cares only about that?
Who are the world's richest women and what do they focus on, stimulate, fight for and contribute as women?
What happens when text from the remote past (say 16/17th century European content in French, Spanish, English, Dutch etc) is asked to be rewritten in modern by an AI?
If you use an AI lije Perplexity to find info, in French it will address you with the "tu" (familiar as opposed to formal "vous") format, as if it were yr buddy or close friend. Is this true for all linguistic formality regimes?
@metaglossia As with many languages, acquiring the script will add to new-learner problems in a fast-shifting information economy. Where is the added value in more language learning for most folk?
@Tomedes The problem is, who cares what a bunch of models agree or disagree on? In this case it is what people think, believe and act on. Whether you learn about this from the media or an LLM is irrelevant...
I asked Perplexity what its worst joke was and it replied:
As an AI, I don’t have personal experiences or preferences, but I can share a joke that’s often considered “the worst” because it’s so groan-worthy and famously bad: Why did the chicken cross the road?
"Meanwhile, we go into India’s linguistic landscape reveals how more than 19,000 spoken languages coexist within shifting political frameworks—challenging the very notion of a unified national language."
From a major multilingual news publication. "19K" languages?
Why hasn't #multilingual Europe realized that richly-languaged #AI offers a positive opportunity that should be collectively addressed in depth? Plenty of challenges, but think of what we could learn!
Is there an universal symbol for the concept of “#multilingual” anywhere? Google has a geometrical symbol in its upcoming #Astra project advertising that claims “Hold conversations and translate input into the language of your choice”. Is this serious?
Has anyone collected the ways in which English #ArtificialInteligence is translated or borrowed into say 200 other languages? Are there more #word4word solutions? Inventive #neologisms? Or just borrowings?
The more Europe encourages cross-border research as a mark of EU sci-tech development, the fewer languages will be shared in research. So English remains the prime language of EU research. True? Does it matter? What alternatives?
