@Tradermayne Vietnam has no negotiating power and has nothing that can significantly move the needle on reducing the deficit. I think it's just noise for PR purposes.
@donnelly_brent 1. College graduates in Vietnam working in corporations make less than $1000 a month and can be much lower.
2. For the middle class consumer goods, you're competing with Chinese, Japanese, domestic, etc. brands who have already built a presence and more relatable to the locals
@gadikian guessing you've already realized this but you need someone to deal with bureaucracy in VN
biz culture is much different in SG as well. it's recommended to start there instead of HN esp if you have a western mindset
@gadikian think TH and MY are realistically your only choices
quality of life is much better than VN for not that much more in USD terms.
TH not as good Eng as MY but lots of services for foreigners
@gadikian buying property in SEA in a lot of cases not as good investment as US.
you're likely better off buying some kind of American asset then use the cashflow to pay for rent since there's less risk and gives you more flexibility
@kyleichan Realized this reading through some of the job listings in VN for non factory positions. Didn't see a single domestic company and saw many Chinese that also required Chinese fluency
@marikakatanuma American perspective. Have been to Tokyo 3 times in the past year.
Best value megacity in the world at current USDJPY
Public transit is world class and Maps app works v well
Vs other Asian countries, easy for tourists to pay digitally
Cleanest restrooms in the world
@marikakatanuma Con: Language barrier for English
Not a big deal since Eng/JP translation works relatively well but many locals are hesitant to speak English even if they're at a level that is good enough.
Sometimes feels a bit difficult to go outside of major tourist areas
@blknoiz06 no cashflowing businesses unless you already have experience in the industry, have someone you trust who's a good operator, or willing to grind.
it's usually not worth the time vs deploying to risk assets imo.
prob best to try to scale up the strategy that you won the 5M with
