Why do people raised under Islam never notice they’re part of a cult?

Since I escaped it, let me tell you about the facts they hide to keep you unaware and trapped in their cult.

Foundational Fact: there is no distinct word for “cult” in Arabic. In Arabic today a cult is translated as ta’ifah — “a group with a leader” or “a sect,” like Protestant or Catholic.

The “Age of Ignorance” story

From childhood they teach that life before Islam was Jahiliyyah — ignorance and wildness, nothing worth knowing. Civilization begins with Islam. Everything earlier is dismissed like the Stone Age. That framing is the first lock on the mind.

The fake Abrahamic claim

They tell you Abraham and Ishmael built the Kaaba and dedicated it to Allah, then pagan Arabs stole it. There is no historical record of Abraham in Mecca or of him building the Kaaba. The Abrahamic origin is asserted, never evidenced. Start questioning, see what happens!

The Kaaba itself

They never tell you it was a bayt-il — a house of gods. Pre-Islamic Arabs placed 360 deities inside it. They already called it Bayt Allah (House of Allah). Muslims still use the same name. Most Muslims never learn it was a pagan title first.

Allah

They hide that Allah was already a pagan high god, treated as father of the other Arabian gods, including daughters the Arabian pagans worshipped.

“Allahu Akbar”

Any Arabic speaker knows akbar means “greater,” not “greatest.” You grow up thinking it means “Allah is greater than this context/moment.” Pre-Islamic pagans used it to mean “Allah is greater than the other gods.” Muhammad’s grandfather is recorded saying it at Muhammad’s birth. The phrase is older than Islam, no one questions it.

The Black Stone

Pagan Arabs revered, touched, and kissed that stone. They treated it as sent from heaven and linked to Allah. The same acts continue. Islam forbade idol worship; the stone ritual stayed. They deny they are worshipping an object while performing the same emotional rites.

Circling the Kaaba

The tawaf — walking around the Kaaba — was a pagan circuit. They chanted pagan formulas. Islam kept the walk and changed the words so only Allah is named. The ritual predates Islam, Muslims are doing it today.

The hint of the Rainbow 🌈

The everyday Arabic word for rainbow is qaws Quzah — “the bow of Quzah.” Quzah was a pre-Islamic weather god. The name survived. The origin is not taught, most Muslims remain unaware.

So you live from birth as a hypnotized man-child who cannot imagine a world without Islam. Everything is Islam, Allah is Greater, and Muhammad was perfect.

Fear and obedience keep you submitted. You live and die without ever seeing that you were in a cult.

Before I left Islam, I was debating a Sudanese Christian who challenged me to name one good thing about Muhammad. Just one.

I thought: easy. We Muslims practically worship Muhammad as the greatest man who ever lived.

So I tried to recall good qualities, honesty, compassion, mercy, love, anything, any single story, and I couldn’t remember one.

And when I started digging into the Quran and the sira for myself, I found that he married a child, he took Safiyya, a Jewish woman, the same day he killed her father, her brother, and her husband, trading his companion Dihya seven other captives for her, and posting a guard by the tent in case she tried to avenge them while raping her.

He had the men of the Jewish tribe beheaded, down to boys checked for pubic hair.

He raided trade caravans and took other tribes’ treasures.

He lied and broke truces he asked for.

He slept with all of his 9 wives the same night.

He killed anyone who mocked him.

He recruited raiders with the promise of other cities’ women.

And when his own fighters hesitated to touch married captives, because their husbands were alive and watching, Muhammad told them it was fine because allah said so.

Even the pagans of Arabia had higher morality than he did.

Every one of these acts was stamped with Allah’s approval.

He even married his adopted son’s wife by divine decree.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I left Islam when I met this disgusting man, a man who turned his qualities into a religion, transmitted it to every generation of Muslims since, and made himself the ceiling of their morality.

This is the man Mamdani wants you to learn from.
