Amazing words by Lionel Scaloni about today's football 🧠❤️
"There's an excess of analysis, too much. Nowadays, everyone knows how the opponent plays; there's so much information that, in the end, the most important thing, which is the player, is almost remote-controlled. In our case, I don't know about other teams, but there's a risk of losing the essence, taking away from the player what is precisely their best quality. If you're constantly telling them what to do, you run that risk. We convey just enough, what we believe we need to transmit, the truly important things, so as not to overwhelm them with information. We are losing the essence of football, not only at a professional level but also with kids. My children play in Spain and are overwhelmed with information. They receive the ball, and they're already being told what to do.
"There are fewer dribblers because if they barely get the ball and you say, 'Pass it!'... Imagine if Messi, when he was eight years old, had been constantly told by his coaches to "Pass it!" We wouldn't have him today. It's impressive. Because football has become such a huge thing, everyone reads, studies, and thinks that with that, they can already manage. If you tell a 7 or 8-year-old to make a diagonal run, cover defensively... He's seven years old! Let him play with the ball, make mistakes, and when he's 14 or 15, then we can start correcting. It's a message for the future. This is a sport, and the beauty of football should not be lost." @marca
I have coached soccer my WHOLE life.
In that time I have managed national soccer, college level and even played professionally myself when I was younger.

“Roberto [De Zerbi] is one of the most influential managers of the last 20 years.” (Guardiola)
Here is what I learned from De Zerbi.
Part 1: Control the ball with the sole of your foot. 🔽
Set realistic goals for yourself. These can help you keep things in perspective as you work through your season/off-season. You don't have to take giant strides everyday. Sometimes the days you achieve the least you learn the most.
Does your player LOVE having the ball at their feet? Do your coaches TEACH your player to LOVE having the ball? Competence (with🦶and 🧠) leads to Confidence!
"I hate the most when you don't want the ball....you have permission to make a mistake, you have permission to lose....when you have permission you accept '𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍'..."

Why do parents hate it so much when their kid plays defense. Especially in 7v7, it's probably one of the best positions for development. The defenders on my team probably touch the ball more than any other position.
Pitchers give yourself room on your offspeed pitches. There are very few counts and situations where a curveball in the dirt is the best option. Throwing it through the zone to draw a swing or dropping it in for a strike helps a lot more.
It’s easier for a Futsal player to transition to field ⚽️ instead of the other way around.
Do you want the 🇺🇸 to start developing better soccer players?
Make Futsal popular in this country from ages 5-12, add it to elementary schools, have MLS academies expand with free Futsal programs at those ages(it’s cheaper than a regular field), have more public futsal courts.
If that happened this decade, you’d see a massive jump in the quality of future USMNT 🇺🇸 generations.
Baseball players should limit exercises that stress the anterior portion of the shoulders such as dips, barbell bench and chest flys, to name a few. Ask us why!!
Rest and recovery are not lazy. Sometimes, your arm needs a break, listen to it. On days when you can not physically do the work, devot some time to the mental side of the game. Study film, break down your mechanics, LEARN.
The lower body is an important factor for athletic performance. A strong lower body allows athletes to generate power from the ground, up the legs, and into the hips and torso. Compound strengthening exercises, such as squats and deadlifts, help enhance force production.
Chaos in training - One of the founding principles or tactical periodisation is chaos. A quick thread of why drills that look too clean will restrict learning.🧵

Long toss should be a feel, not a script. Have an idea of how far you want to go, but listen to your body. Does your arm not have 120ft in it today? That's fine work as far as you can but make every throw count. Intent and focus can accomplish a lot on those days!
The side step walk out test helps evaluate hip joint mobility and groin flexibility. This shows if a pitcher has the ability to stride and spectate their feet. To be effective, a pitchers stride should be at least 85% of their height.
If your training isn’t focusing on 1 of these 4:
1. Walking less batters
2. Inducing weak contact
3. Striking out more batters
4. Improving health and longevity
you are wasting your time.
It’s really that simple.

The obsession with Mph is ruining high school and college level pitching. Kids no longer want to know how to be more effective or consistent. The question is always, "Will this help me throw harder?" Sometimes, you just don't have anything else in the tank, and that is ok.
