On October 22 2018 Kingston voted 63% YES in a referendum on the use of Ranked Ballots. On December 18 2018 #YGK City Council adopted a resolution to do so.
The Ford government has backed down from unpopular announcements before if there is enough of a push back.
Please call Premier Ford’s office at 416-325-1941 to ask he respect the use of ranked ballots in #ygk.

KINGSTON EVEN HAD A WHOLE REFERENDUM ABOUT IT THAT WON WITH 63% AND THEN FORD JUST STOPPED THE WHOLE THING IN THE FINAL LINES OF A BILL THAT WAS ABOUT DEALING WITH COVID
Ontario's cities are incredibly diverse yet their Councils are stuck in the past. Male & Pale. Only 4 female mayors in the largest 32, and BIPOC almost non-existent. Yet today, the Ont gov is banning ranked ballots, one of the best tools we have to improve election outcomes.
A motion urging council to support Kingston's choice for ranked balloting in the next civic election passed almost unanimously at Tuesday night's council meeting. #ygk

This is a great thread from Dave on how the Ford government is going to great lengths to ban ranked ballots with as little consultation from the public as possible.
1. Five US cities held referendums yesterday, asking voters if they want to switch to ranked ballots. And all five voted YES! Not surprising, since we have the same track record here in Ontario, winning every referendum so far. US DETAILS: https://t.co/6mgiN4W3Cq @AMOPolicy
Yesterday was a big day for ranked ballots: In #ygk, council defended ranked ballots in the face of Doug Ford's attack.
And in the U.S. election, all five cities that had ballot initiatives chose to switch to ranked ballots.
Tonight #ygkc will discuss funding that would make it possible for Lionhearts to operate out of Stages. We'll also look at a motion that would reaffirm council's commitment to ranked ballots as well as a number of committee reports. Tune-in live at 7pm: https://t.co/0lh1m888K1
I have a good deal of respect for @SteveClarkPC. I believe, as a former mayor, he listens to and appreciates local government.
That's why I'm asking him to continue to allow City Halls to make decisions about municipal elections, not Queen's Park.

RT if you agree!
Ranked ballots are a fair, effective, democratic tool, which promote diversity and civility (and are employed w/ success by all of Canada’s major political parties)!
That's what my motion with @JimNeill3 argues. #ygk#onpoli#Bill218

@sarah_harmer@123YGK Burlington Council just voted to request that the Minister remove the changes from Bill 218. We want the right to allow our residents to review how their representatives are voted in.
The previous #ygk city council voted to hold a referendum for Ranked Ballots.
Residents campaigned for Ranked Ballots.
63% chose Ranked Ballots.
The current council voted to implement Ranked Ballots.
Kingston, don't let all that be thrown away:

Decisions about Kingston elections should be made by Kingston voters and Kingston City Council, not by one line buried deep in provincial legislation. Sign if you agree:

Municipalities are expressing their frustration at Doug Ford's attack on local democracy. London and Mono have already passed motions. Motions in Barrie and Burlington are on the way. The #ygk motion will be debated tomorrow. Add your voice:
