India has just become Asia’s least-preferred stock market in BofA’s latest fund manager survey, overtaking Indonesia.

32% of fund managers are net underweight India.

The concerns: lack of clear AI exposure, weak growth, high valuations and limited reform momentum.

Yet the irony is striking: earnings are improving, global funds have bought $4bn+ of Indian equities this quarter, and Nifty 50 earnings grew 18% YoY in the latest quarter.

Sometimes fundamentals improve while sentiment deteriorates. Perhaps India’s next leg higher needs more than earnings growth, it needs a compelling growth narrative that investors can believe in.
