NEWS: Elon Musk says SpaceX will build its own gas turbine parts to power AI faster.

AI data centers need huge amounts of power right now. Solar is coming, but it takes years to build. So natural gas has to fill the gap for a while.

The holdup with gas power plants is the turbine. The hardest part to make is casting the blades and vanes, the precision metal pieces that spin inside it. There is a long backlog.

SpaceX already casts complex metal parts for rockets. Musk says it will now cast turbine blades in-house too, which he says can bring gas turbines online up to 18 months sooner.

In his words: "By doing in-house casting at SpaceX, we can accelerate nat gas turbines coming online by up to 18 months, which is a profound game-changer."

He also said SpaceX and Tesla are each building 100 gigawatts a year of solar "as fast as possible," with gas there to "supplement and bootstrap solar for several years."

Starbase's new police department is rolling out black-and-white Tesla Cybertrucks with full City of Starbase branding and emergency gear.

The town has roughly 500 residents, mostly tied to SpaceX, and now its own chief and 8 officers right next to the Starship launch site.
