I don't know who else to tell this to, so I am going to tell my story here.
Every day is a struggle for a young business, but the last few months have been harder than usual.
We are a small Indian company. For more than ten years we have been building a homegrown brand in a product category dominated by big foreign players.
There are almost no Indian names in this space. We set out to be one.
We started in 2014. Over the years we began making parts in India instead of just importing, and we started selling in the US, Dubai, Nepal, Malaysia and South Africa.
We showed up at global trade fairs to represent an Indian brand on the world stage.
In 2023 we changed the import code we use for our product. We did not do this quietly. Every shipment was declared. Nothing was hidden. We didn't invent our approach.
We followed written professional advice and the way this product is treated in markets around the world.
And now we are facing a government demand running into tens of crores in duty recovery and penalties, plus personal penalties on the founders and even on an employee.
For a company our size, this is not a fine we can pay and move on from. This ends us.
We have not run from any of this. I am not built like that. It is not how I was raised. We have written to the authorities, met officials in person, and we have now filed a writ in the High Court.
All we are asking for is a fair treatment.
I set out to build in India and sell to the world. I am asking only that the system back honest founders trying to compete globally, instead of breaking them.
The process is the process, and it exists for a reason. But process should not feel like punishment.
From where I am standing today, it does.
I am not giving up. I have worked too hard for this. If you have read this far, please share it. If you know someone who can help, point them my way. Help me get the word out.
US Embassy in New Delhi launched the "Freedom 250" campaign to celebrate America's 250th anniversary in New Delhi. They paid auto-rickshaw drivers to put posters that featured US Flag and Donald Trump on their vehicles.
Now, auto drivers are removing these posters in protest after USA killed Indian sailors.
Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a “friend” and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive?
Why couldn’t a non-compliant commercial vessel have been stopped using other, non-lethal means? Is it not possible to disable a ship's propulsion or steering without firing missiles targeted to kill civilian crew members?
Practically every merchant ship navigating these crucial waters has Indian crew on board. Are they all considered fair game for US missiles now?
This approach is unacceptable and I hope @DrSJaishankar had said so to @marcorubio.
@ravihanda SEBI has defined an MFDs role to just the allocating existing client funds available to match the clients needs and risk profile
Clients tend to be greedy about returns. And ar clueless on risk management or asset allocation.
@ravihanda The eligibility to become a mutual fund distributor is low. It's an exam. That can be repeated many number of times time to pass.
Just as you grow and learn and develop over a period of time, so does any individual in any profession including MFDs.
The @MMRDAOfficial wants 2 lakh BKC corporates to leave their cars at home every Friday starting June 12 for Public Transport Day.
Spoiler: It’s going to crash and burn. Here is why:
The last-mile nightmare: BKC is heavily car-centric. Getting off at Bandra/Kurla stations or the Metro is easy; getting from there to your office means surviving chaotic auto-rickshaw lines or waiting 25 mins for an already packed BEST bus.
Monsoon madness: Launching a walking/bus initiative in mid-June? Good luck navigating BKC’s concrete desert with zero shade or rain cover during a Mumbai downpour.
Rules for thee: Let’s be real. The CXOs and senior bosses aren't jumping into overcrowded locals. They'll just move their Friday meetings to Lower Parel or work from home.
Great intent, but unless they flood the streets with hundreds of seamless, high-frequency feeder buses overnight, Fridays in BKC are just going to be an absolute mess.
My favourite Anna movement story to narrate is how their high voltage protest streak faced a severe hurdle when they held their protest at MMRDA grounds in Mumbai, thanks to BKC's decades old rickshaw mafia. Kiran Bedi went up on stage and alleged a conspiracy that rickshaw walas had been instructed by the then UPA government to not ferry passengers coming for the protest. It was funny to us in Mumbai because you never get rickshaws from the station to BKC easily on any damn day and this continues till date. To those from outside Mumbai who were watching the then breathless coverage of the protests, this must have seemed like a huge conspiracy, only Mumbaikars knew it was a regular thing. And that's how spin works. Not much has changed even today about how regular things are given a propaganda spin.
Giriraj Singh has called the Cockroach Janata Party the “new tukde tukde gang.”
This is a familiar script: label anyone who disagrees with the government as anti-national. Set media against them, arrest them. But you cannot silence millions of young Indians who have had enough.
This pic in last few days has become viral and bizarre comments are being given.
The young officer went little overboard but that doesn’t mean that there was security breach. Very often Know Your Army events are organised for public and everyone clicks pics with weapons and equipment. This serves as motivation for children.
This pic in fact is a good motivational poster for Army recruitment
Vivek Agarwal's father was admitted to MAX Hospital. Seven members of his family were staying at the ill-fated Hotel Flourish Stays, where the fire broke out.
Not a single one of them survived.
Entire family was wiped out because some fire officer allegedly took a bribe to issue a fire clearance, some government babu never checked the building plans, and authorities ignored the illegal restaurant operating in the basement.
Now they will find the owner and put all the blame and act as if they are serious. But they won't allow anyone to talk about the system failure that made this tragedy possible.
Sadly, the news cycle will move on, and so will most people.
You can Rape ,Murder, give Hate speeches, kill people in accidents… Our Judiciary will surely grant bail. But … but .. but .. your name should not be #UmarKhalid. #justasking
Customer reported a bug that was impacting their critical traffic, they were escalating it to VP level and asking me to fix it asap.
I was under a lot of pressure but suddenly checked customer's location and it was showing South Asia. Stopped working on the fix and sent mail to VP saying that it's a Pakistani agenda to defame our product, there is no bug.
Now waiting to get a good salary hike this year.
