For those who didn’t know late Col. AA Ude and the reason why his mysterious death is so painful to us (Igbo Muslims)

Sheikh Col. AA Ude was a Hafizul Qur’an (He memorized the whole Qur’an).

He was a mastery of Arabic Language, he commands the Language perhaps better than the Arabs.

He was a seasoned intelligence military officer and one of the best in Nigeria today.

He was due for his promotion to the rank of Brigadier General next year (a rank no Igbo Muslim ever has attained in the Military).

He had numerous awards commending his rare intelligence and intellect in Military intelligence security (a rare breed).

Above all, he was a very calm, quiet, and composed individual and hardly raises his voice when he communicates! 😭

He was a Teacher of the Qur’an and a great mentor to most of us and Wallahi, it would take a generation to raise his kind again in our midst!

May Allah grant you pardon our dear sheikh and illuminate your grave! May you not be questioned for too long before you are admitted into Jannah!

Something quick has to be done about the rising spate of elderly women brutalizing their younger ones in the East. This has nothing to do with we versus them. I can count more than 10 cases I have read on national dailies recently but this is the peak of it all. Human flesh?

The Nation Nigeria gave Maryam Yusuf, the Niqabi golden girl, who led Team Nigerian to an outstanding Spelling Bee performance in far away Shanghai, China, her flowers, in a special editorial dedicated to her and her team.

Unlike the Vanguard News which went unprofessional and biased and subjected Maryam to attacks from online mobs and headless rogues, The Nation Nigeria chronicled the success of the team without overlooking the challenges faced by Maryam.

The editorial said, "Yet, we saw the bitter part of the story in the rage of social media spoilsports who mocked Yusuf’s dressing. They said she was not a contestant but a masquerade. These people did not value her educational laurel. They belong to a group of Nigerians who do not wish their country well."

The editorial added, "The marvel of the girl should have spurred praises without any form of blemish. It also speaks to fervent religious intolerance in the country. What has fashion got to do with the brain power of a 14-year-old! Even a mainstream newspaper had to be compelled to feature her photo in her niqab on pain of a court action."

From this conclusion, it suffices to say that the Vanguard Newspaper is among the mobs who have no good wishes for our dear country, Nigeria. It was a complete show of shame and professional recklessness. It was very hard to believe that a household name in the Nigerian print media would stoop so low to that unceremonious state.

Instead of focusing on the intellectual brilliance, academic excellence and moral uprightness of the golden girl, ripping off her Niqab in an AI-mutilated image was what she got in return. That is shameful!

The editor and the writer behind the show of shame should be embarrassed by their inglorious action, even though it has taken nothing away from Mayram and others like her. This is the beginning of her rise to stardom and no amount of mockery can pull this young, brilliant and outstanding girl back.

We’re proud of you, Maryam.
