@DavidBroderDO @LongerMedical @DisgruntledMS4 @NBOME Dr. Gimpel revealed on a podcast that he sees no issue with PGY-1 or PGY-2 residents taking the Comlex PE. The issue is that if I can't get a PE spot and pass the Level 3 during intern year, I will not be allowed to advance to PGY-2 at many programs per the residency contract.(4)

@DavidBroderDO @LongerMedical @DisgruntledMS4 @NBOME Once accepted into a residency program, the onus of 'protecting the public' falls onto the residency program and GME standards for resident competency. The PE provides no additional value. The other issue is the delay of licensure. (3)

The test was never intended for physicians, it was intended for medical students to prove clinical competency prior to entering residency. (2)

I hope you can see the major ramifications of pushing forward with the PE. Over 6,000 students are set to graduate in May, obtain their DO degree, and will not have a PE exam. (1)

Step 2 ck = no changes

Step 2 CS = gone FOREVER, Will no longer exist

Step 3 = no changes

@RosenelliEM @jbcarmody @smalltownOMS also, this really sucks. i have a program i really like in one of the 7 states that will not accept the usmle for DO's. i can't even register for level 3 until i've passed the PE. there's no way i can get the series finished during intern year if i match at this program. :(

Wow, big news from @TheUSMLE today! Step2CS is canceled (for the foreseeable future?).

Maybe the benefit didn’t outweigh the cost of maintaining it after all.
