The Court ordered several provisional measures, including that Israel must take all measures within its power to prevent the commission of all acts within the scope of Article II of the Genocide Convention. These acts include killing or causing serious bodily or mental harm to Palestinians in Gaza.
While the Court still has to hear South Africa’s main application, the provisional measures that it ordered has reaffirmed the centrality of international law and the responsibility we all carry for the protection of the rights of all.

Hoe kunnen we meer doen om burgers in Gaza te helpen en te reageren op de dramatische situatie ?

The Gaza Strip and the West’s “jig is up”
As Ferdowsi, of noble extraction, once wrote:
“In words alone, greatness finds no reach,
Actions speak louder than words”
Democracy, human rights, international law, and international peace and security are among the most frequently cited phrases in the literature of statesmen from countries that consider themselves leaders of the international community and mentors to governments and nations worldwide. However, due to the actions of these very same governments across the globe, a pervasive question has arisen within global public opinion: Why do these claimants behave like dictators on the international stage, flagrantly violating their own espoused claims in practice? Why do those who incessantly advocate for the necessity of respecting the votes and opinions of nations, fail to tolerate independent governments in the international arena, refusing to heed the voices and views of nations and governments that stem from the votes of their own people and instead, often resort to punitive measures against them or even regime change?
Why do those who speak of international law, rules, and regulations flagrantly violate these tenets within international forums and environments, trample upon democratic values, and disregard the votes of the vast majority of countries, both in the Security Council and the United Nations General Assembly?!
Providing political, economic, military, financial, legal, and international backing to the Zionist regime, notwithstanding its illegitimate and terrorist identity and accusations of war crimes and genocide, stands as a violation of human rights and international humanitarian law. This stands as the epitome of the most egregious violation of human rights and represents undemocratic and dictatorial conduct within international relations. The dictators of the international stage cannot present themselves as exemplars of democracy, champions of human rights, protectors and advocates of international peace and security, and lecture others.
Countries and nations of the world remember numerous civil and imposed wars, often orchestrated by the very nations professing commitments to human rights, democratic principles, global peace, security, and adherence to international laws.
The conduct of this group of claimant countries vis-à-vis six months of unequal war against the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 31 thousand civilian casualties due to the Zionist regime’s genocide, starkly illustrates the extent to which these professed ideals align with their slogans.
As global public opinion is outraged over the unprecedented crimes committed by the Zionists in #Gaza and calls for deterrent measures to halt these crimes and genocide further, the very usual claimants and false flag-bearers of championing security, world peace, #humanrights, and peremptory international laws and regulations have thus far thwarted any legal or executive decisions against this regime within the world’s most significant security authority.
What has happened to #Palestine and its oppressed people, particularly the women and children of this land, over the past six months, as well as the suffering endured by the holy land and its indigenous inhabitants over the last 75 years due to occupation, oppression, and countless heinous crimes, stands as a stark testament to the hypocrisy of primarily Western countries who claim to uphold fundamental human and moral principles, as well as international laws and regulations enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
According to Hafez Shirazi, may peace be upon him:
“Happy it is if the touch-stone of experience comes into use,
So that black of face becometh every one, in whom is alloy”
