@hypothesizethat@starboard_light Books, off campus housing (cheaper than on), food, etc are not billed by the university and aren't shown in the portal. That's what the "check to the student" is intended to cover.
@hypothesizethat@starboard_light And any excess is literally deposited into the student's bank account.
I have two kids in college. Neither of them maxed out their loans, but they are indeed "cut a check"
@JoeyPigskins@MattCover It's generally the same crowd that doesn't understand the direct link between government subsidizing health insurance (ACA) and skyrocketing health insurance.
@cafreiman It's a matter of first principles that business owners have the right to freely compete in the marketplace for labor by paying market wages.
Not lobbying government to distort the marketplace at the expense of workers.
@DrSamuelGregg@JDVance "subject to the demands of the rule of law."
Leave that out and I'd agree. But you and your ilk abuse the law to destroy our jobs and companies. So fuck off out of here with your Ayn Rand bullshit. You're not a builder, you're a taker of a different sort.
@burkov As an advertiser, it's incredibly effective - to the point we only use Google to retarget people we reach on FB/IG. Someone is still on the platform.

@CalebChamberla6 @c0nst Section 232 exemptions for finished aluminum goods can't be helping this at all. (Might have the exact section number wrong, but tariffing the hell out of raw stock without corresponding tariffs on the stuff made from it has got to hurt a US fabricator)
@braxton_mccoy I talk to a lot of deep backwoods hunters. A couple times a year I have someone mention Bigfoot. As in "you might think I'm crazy but I can't explain what I saw"
Me...I know black bears walk on their hind legs occasionally so that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
@TurnAndBurn210 They increase the traffic an existing bridge/intersection can handle (cheaper than a new or larger bridge) & decrease fatality/injury accidents.
The flow improves a lot. No frontage roads here in VA though, so good luck with that part.
@TMoldwin@witty_genstein I have the same question - frontier developers perhaps?
AI makes me significantly more productive. 30 year old systems engineering skills translate well to AI and my 23 year old industrial engineer son is on a complete other level with AI.
