reminder that teenagers are shouted at by adults in parks because it's a "kids" space, that youth clubs are mostly bible studies, that the youth isn't allowed to hang out in groups & going out to get food or something is expensive
what are they supposed to do?
i don't understand why labour would want to give 16 year olds the vote (good!!) and then simultaneously treat them with such contempt like this.. makes no sense to me
@gxrethclarke Well ya see Kier needs a legacy so they didn't think about that same as they didn't think about tbe impact on the disabled or the carers or if it will actually work
13 years ago this month, the Guardian broke the Snowden story...the biggest mass surveillance exposé in history.
Today it calls your concern about ID-linked browsing, spyware in your photos and messages, and broken encryption, "fake outrage" while Starmer's government demands backdoors into your iCloud and calls for people to be arrested for tweets.
The watchdog became the lapdog.
I never talk politics with my kids, they don't know my views.
But I just mentioned to my 8yo and 11yo that the Labour government is going to ban them from YouTube and they are now in a cold rage calling for the destruction of Labour party for all time.
YouTube and Twitch being on this list is crazy. Genuinely insane. This is public policymaking being done by the middle aged and elderly, who haven’t a shred of insight into youth culture, or the lives that young people actually lead
Imagine an all England champions league final next year streamed live on YouTube like it has in the past but Keir Starmer says kick off is past your bed time so you can't watch it
Or a media student not allowed to watch the Oscars when YouTube take over. Completely bonkers
YouTube has lowered the barriers to entry for everyone to learn about the world and pursue their hobbies. From playing the guitar to discovering history by stumbling upon documentaries made by enthusiastic amateurs. Shutting children off from the world will be utterly miserable.
👤Who could have guessed?
Instead of holding tech monopolies accountable, this flawed policy will force the British public to hand over sensitive biometric face scans just to use the internet.
We should be dismantling surveillance capitalism and breaking up data monopolies, not feeding Big Tech even more of our deeply personal information.

I used to play Xbox 360 late into the morning when I was in school. My parents found out and started turning the router off at night.
Amazingly they didn’t require a parliamentary majority and royal assent.
@PolitlcsUK Digitial id folks by the backdoor. You didn't vote for it. The govermnent hasn't taken it through proper legislation. But they're doing it anyway.
🚨NEW: Teachers are raising concerns about a ban on YouTube for under-16s as many year 10 and 11 students use the platform to learn and revise GCSE content
Under these proposals at 17 you’ll be able to vote, join the army and drive a car but not allowed to watch premier league highlights on YouTube on a Saturday night. What an absurd idea.
This mean students up to Year 11 will not be able to revise GCSE biology on Freesciencelessons YouTube channel.
This also mean a 15 years and 364 days old not be able to read Facebook posts from their MP or councillor, but expected to vote for them tomorrow.
