Hey vets! I humbly ask you to please, please, PLEASE get involved with oral history projects. You don’t have to feel like you have a story “worth” telling - you have no idea what a future historian may one day be writing about, but oral histories are an invaluable resource. 1/
John McCain requested a combat assignment. As POW, he was offered early release because of his family name. He refused, tortured more and spent 5 additional years as a POW.
Unbelievably embarrassing tweet from someone who clearly could never come close to McCain’s #honor
We don't back down in the face of Islamophobia and racism at home or abroad. We stand up, stand together and make it clear that terrorism won't be met with indifference but with action that honors our diversity as the people of the world. Thinking of our friends in New Zealand.
10 national veterans organizations appealed directly to Trump this week, asking him to order the Justice Department not to contest a federal court decision that would extend VA benefits to thousands of Vietnam War veterans https://t.co/RoDBy2f5rq
I remember a Green Beans Coffee at the exchange at Bagram, and a decent espresso machine run by the Italian NATO element at ISAF HQ. But I don’t recall seeing any Starbucks over there...
In case you missed it yesterday, here's a breakdown of Trump's budget proposal for the VA. Based on draft rules for vets to see private doctors (30-min drive time, 20-day wait), the agency estimated an additional $2.9 billion for private care. https://t.co/W8jW41AaVh
The White House is requesting $93 billion in discretionary spending for the VA in 2020, an increase of about 7.5 percent from this year. But, it asks for cuts to some mandatory spending, including a cost-of-living round-down (which has been unpopular among veterans groups).
In my hometown, people wear t-shirts that say, ‘My city smells like Cheerios’ but when they make Lucky Charms, it smells even better!
Happy #NationalCerealDay 🥣
"But part of the problem, Dr. Hayes said, is that it is difficult in many places, particularly rural areas, to find qualified obstetrician-gynecologists."
