In the past we've promoted an intro lesson for quadratic functions where students contrast examples of quadratics w/ non-examples. https://t.co/OIh7lfpt4c
Today at #moctm19 (11:00am Polo Room) we share the general process for creating engaging sets of examples and non-examples.
My understanding of the slope of a line got so much better when I realised it was a multiplier rather than just a random number produced by a division.
That is, it's not so much that
[slope] = (change in y) / (change in x)
but that
(change in y) = [slope] * (change in x).
If you're teaching systems of equations, having students choose the equations that go into each system can help reveal how they're looking at equations and empower them as they practice solving. #Algebra

Though technically speaking, even the original image was angled, that angle just happened to be 90 degrees. ;-)

Release day! My children’s picture book, MISSING LETTERS: AN ALPHABET BOOK, is available. https://t.co/xz9IVkQuQ0
It took 2 years to create it w/ fantastic illustrator, Leon Thomas, and to find a home at @olympiapub. Here are some pics of where we started and where we ended up.
Here's a free version of our new article on how to use math videos to engage students -- going beyond passive lecture videos. #FlippedMath https://t.co/hd0xrQf2JW https://t.co/Lee8kPQLRr
Disrupt the HW reviewing routine: "what was a key idea across the ENTIRE assignment?" "Find 2 probs that were very similar" "Find 2 probs that were diff in some way"

There's power in viewing problems two-at-a-time instead of always one-at-a-time. This is an example: https://t.co/0nbsQC3NsC
This approach can also be taken in general when going over homework. See @2minteachguide.
We've got less than two months before school starts, but we've also got a very tangible way to get this coronavirus under control. We can do this! #WearMasks

Standards-Based Grading is a powerful way to turn students' attention and efforts toward their own learning. We're offering an SBG course online this summer.
All teachers are invited to enroll (no formal application required). @rose_metro @MizzouEducation https://t.co/iMf8LKnd5w
