This huge plume of dust might throw a corkscrew into today's forecast. It could both increase and decrease the risk of severe weather, depending on a bunch of other factors.

It could lead to less instability this afternoon, limiting the severe weather threat, in addition to less moisture in the low-mid levels. However, it could create increased lift and steeper lapse rates. If that happens, the threat of severe weather would remain more significant.

What will happen? Hard to tell right now, but obviously if you're in Illinois/Iowa/Indiana/Ohio/Michigan, stay alert this afternoon. Dew points so far are slightly lower than models have displayed, but that could always change by lunchtime.
