It’s so obvious how the next euro mid cap to pop off is Mersen $MRN.PA. They make electrical power components and advanced graphite-based materials. €1.2B in sales, €1B market cap, 50+ plants across Europe, the US and China. Deep footprint in semis, EVs and aerospace/defense
@Colosteve2000@jukan05 I don’t think its about the inherent value of HuggingFace rather than the fact that Nvidia has obvious interest in make sure the open source / open weights community remains alive to avoid concentration of GPUs purchases by a few big labs (who turns out can make their own chips)
We are announcing a long-term strategic partnership with NVIDIA. NVIDIA is making a substantial investment in SSI that will let us 10x our compute in the next 12 months. We reached the point where our research is worth scaling and with this partnership we will be able to. We are honored by NVIDIA’s conviction.
NVIDIA: „800V starts in Q3, but only in small quantities.”
Semianalysis and @dylan522p says: “The big volumes only come in 2028, and in 2027 it’s only about 5%.”
That’s not a contradiction, it’s the same picture, just seen from two angles: one from the very beginning, one from the overall scale.
The start is small and voluntary. The first Vera Rubin chips don’t even need the new 800V technology yet, they run fine on the old power system. That’s why it’s just small quantities at the start.
800V only becomes truly necessary with the next chip generation (Kyber, from late 2027). That’s when the big switch pays off, and from 2028 it becomes the standard.
So the 5% in 2027 fits perfectly. small start early, big ramp later. Both reports tell the same story.
Todays market and the commentary read as if that were a contradiction.
A good time to remind people that in my time doing LLM research I feel like a minority of my colleagues are American citizens.
It would be industry destroying to have to rebuild with segregation for frontier ai research to be legal.
French startup Mistral AI is in talks to raise around €3 billion ($3.5 billion) at a valuation of roughly €20 billion, sources say https://t.co/BY3wtizb0E
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Especially as wolfspeed $WOLF expands SiC wafer capacity, and that moving from 150 mm to 200 mm, even 300 mm requires more graphite
Honestly expecting a nice surprise in next quarter’s advanced materials results
In March 2023, Mersen and Wolfspeed ($WOLF) signed a 5-year supply agreement for graphite and high-tech materials, with potential value of ~$400M over the period https://t.co/mjvABRi570
MOCVD, like other epitaxial deposition processes, requires high quality graphite components to hold and heat wafers.
Mersen $MRN is a global leader here, and photonics (via InP) could be a hidden growth story, alongside the more obvious SiC / power semis play
And I'm starting to think the gating factor for scale-up CPO might actually be MOCVD machines. $AIXA InP is grossly under-modeled.
GaN and SiC TAM will be in the 10s of billions and capacity WILL run out once new DC builds adopt 800VDC. MOCVD intensity at a fraction of that is billions of revenue for small cap $6b Aixtron.
CPO and 800VDC both have 3 phases of ramp each 1/2 OOM larger than the last.
Excess free graphite capacity just waiting to be converted into straight EBITDA once demand for SiC and InP substrates pick up, which is happening right now
Double power and photonics exposure
You gotta love this stock. At least I do 🙊
