@PayloadUnkown@BearJFK The point here being that the treasury did precisely that: set the budget, balanced the books. MoD procurement stuffed up by thinking if they bought X the treasury would be forced to up the budget to allow them to buy Y because X by it self made little sense.
@KirstieMAllsopp@MartinSLewis The rate of repayment/ thresholds aren’t really set up for you to service or repay the loan. In a job live midwifery it would be worthwhile working out if you are likely to repay it all or if it is just going to be written off. Many be you make payments or just think of it as tax
@Johnmcternan@patpryce@whazell I always thought there must be something I’m missing with the Chagos deal. Turns out there isn’t and it’s just a truly awful deal. What I can’t work out is why no one is bright enough to just bin it.
@DavidHenigUK “Many in the UK want to be back. And don't care about whether "with reform" or not.” Actually the polling would suggest otherwise. While there is a decent section of voters that support rejoin EU, when the terms are set out support drops off significantly.
@dontdelay LISAs seem better to me, could be pitched to grandparents and focused/marketed on helping with university costs and house deposit (if the scheme was amended) The government contribution seems to really attractive to kids, I guess it just gives it a bit of a boost.
@julianHjessop I don’t understand the focus on headroom when we are still borrowing so much. Less headroom and rather just trying not to borrow more, which they then do anyway
@an0n_Nic I met some of the team who worked on this. I recon there are probably about 50 people doing genuinely transformative work in government, so much more just administrative.
@dontdelay@Kat_Says_Stuff Gosh if only some one saw this coming and make appropriate provision. Could be worse I suppose, we could be running a stonking deficit and racking up expensive debt all the time
@tonyannett I’m unlikely to inherit much, certainly won’t be taxed, I’m also u likely to leave much so probably won’t be taxed on it. I still think IHT is a rubbish tax and should be binned.
@lewis_goodall Tackling wealth inequality by taxing people’s inheritance (taking money from people). Typical socialism, don’t mind if people are poor so long as no one is rich.
@Johnmcternan We might win the next one by reforming the welfare state thereby allowing the country to grow the economy, eliminate the deficit and fund defence instead
@William06853246@DanielJHannan I don’t think PR would help, it hands too much power to the political parties to form governments of their choosing rather than what the public have voted for. Our current system is far from perfect but we can and do get rid of governments we don’t like.
