@cinamoorolll Most people don’t pay attention to how calorie dense seemingly small meals are, especially office workers gobbling up fast casual dining for lunch. A meal at chipotle can easily run you 1,500 calories, just to name one option.
@ArchAngelBTC@lydiataydavis Simply put: there is a difference between a life worth beginning and a life worth continuing.
You can only contest this on the grounds of spooky religious metaphysics. And that will never move me.
@ArchAngelBTC@lydiataydavis What sets DS apart from the other medical conditions you outline is DS is detected in utero, when the moral status of the person is at least in controversy. Every other case occurs in unambiguously full moral persons.
@ArchAngelBTC@lydiataydavis You guys can be so unbelievably obtuse. Keep all the trisomy 21 babies you want. If you really wanna put your money where your mouth is adopt, one from someone who can’t meet his or her needs. I bet you haven’t and you won’t. And that’s fine. Because no one should have to!
@ArchAngelBTC@lydiataydavis Yes, the platitudes about equal in humanity and dignity and about challenges not defining the worth of a person facing them are very nice, maybe even true.
But those challenges are real, moreover, they are MATERIAL. Families have to eat, put a roof over their head.
@KristanHawkins I don’t know how you look at the needs these DS kids have, how expensive American healthcare is, and how unforgiving the social safety net is and conclude people should be forced to raise them. You people are comically evil.
@ArchAngelBTC@lydiataydavis People with DS are not magical compassion lessons sent from above. I would argue you’re dehumanizing them in your own way.
Parenting DS babies is a huge commitment emotionally and financially. The least we can do is make it optional. Especially in our crushing healthcare system
@shudnell@ettingermentum He’s not a nazi. He is a guy who got a Nazi tattoo though. I’ve spent enough time around marines to know how he came to have that tattoo, and it’s not because he’s an honest to god national socialist. Good luck trying to explain that to the average voter though.
@billybinion It’s a bummer that words like “stupid” and “dumb” get thrown around and mean someone whose views are wrong. Because when I say Dave Rubin is stupid, I mean he is actually very unintelligent, regardless of his views.
@mattwridley Yup. None of the things he outlines in the tweet are cures for aging, nor do they purport to increase quality of life in those that live super long. We’re too caught up in increasing absolute years of life and not thinking about how we can increase useful years of life.
