International law and Hamas.
Who is a civilian and how is that determined? Can Hamas gain legal advantage by breaking the law with human shields? Are reprisals permissible?

One of the most important speeches in American history was Coolidge's commemoration of the 150th anniversary. 100 years later, we now know we lost our society, economy, and legal system precisely because we thought we could "advance" from the principles of enlightenment to "progressivism" but instead it would up being regressive.
"It is often asserted that the world has made a great deal of progress since 1776, that we have had new thoughts and new experiences which have given us a great advance over the people of that day, and that we may therefore very well discard their conclusions for something more modern. But that reasoning can not be applied to this great charter.
If all men are created equal, that is final.
If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final.
If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions.
If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people.
Those who wish to proceed in that direction can not lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more modern, but more ancient, than those of the Revolutionary fathers."
@mdubowitz The different takes on the Lebanon agreement by @fdd's @mdubowitz and @DavidADaoud are interesting - perhaps driven by alternative focuses on Lebanon and Iran?
@mdubowitz Advanced by radical progressive ideology that came from Europe more than a century ago and has been advancing in American universities for decades.
Today, Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned Hizballah-aligned Lebanese officials, as well as members and interlocutors of a Hizballah-associated business network. The Lebanese officials designated today have used their influence to obstruct Lebanon’s peace process and delay the disarmament of Hizballah.

@joshrauh@JewishWarrior13@EpochTimes the problem is that association with a "jihadist terrorism conspiracy against the United States" now appears to be helpful in running for Federal office, at least in some parts of the United States

"@NYCMayor's plan to extend the timetable to pay off the city’s pension debt will free up money in the near term to close a yawning budget deficit.
Over the long run, it could end up costing taxpayers billions."
