Bundibugyo District is widely known as Uganda's cocoa powerhouse, producing a significant share of the country's cocoa. The crop is the backbone of the local economy, providing income and employment to thousands of families while contributing greatly to Uganda's export earnings.
However, the district faces challenges due to the #Ebola outbreak, which has created fear among communities and disrupted trade and movement. Farmers, traders, and businesses are feeling the effects as health authorities work to contain the disease.
Despite these challenges, the people of Bundibugyo remain resilient, balancing efforts to protect public health while sustaining cocoa production, the district's most important economic activity.

Semu Pimo Wakamu, a small scale farmer from Ndeinja I Village in Rwampara District, has spent years relying on traditional farming methods to manage his banana, yam, and coffee gardens, alongside poultry, goat rearing, and beekeeping. Although dedicated to farming, he had never fully embraced ICT in his daily farm operations.
After participating in the @ict4farmers training programme, Semu says his perspective on farming has greatly changed. One of the most exciting moments for him was learning how to use the Google Camera feature to identify plant diseases and discover the botanical names of crops directly from his smartphone.
