if a person follows a Madhab but departs from it in a specific issue coz they find a stronger evidence elsewhere or follow a more knowledgeable scholar on that topic, they are doing what is obligatory

As for what you have said to follow ask scholar than it's not taqleed, rathers it's itaat as the Quran says, Ask people of Knowledge.
