#Kaalipotka by @ABHIRUP8 is a very engaging and entertaining dark comedy crime drama, amplified by great peformances and the raw treatment. Swastika & Anirban are the highlights while Shruti, Sreya & Himika also put forth solid works.
Music works well. Dialogues 👌
I gear up everytime @ABHIRUP8 comes up with a new show. #Kaalipotka trailer screams a gritty world with ruthless backgrounds & quirky characters, played by Swastika Mukherjee, Shruti Das, Sreya Bhattacharya, Himika Bose & Anirban Chakrabarti.
Looking forward to the show eagerly!
@ABHIRUP8 The climax episode is something the makers deserve huge praise for. Given the infrastructure and economics of the industry, pulling this climax was definitely difficult. Even though they could not reach the potential due to budget etc, they seem to have given their fullest.❤
#Mrigaya solidifies a fact: Budget might be less but, if conviction is high, one will be able to make at least a good attempt.
But Mrigaya is not just a good attempt. For me, it's a solid entertaining film from one of my all time favourites @ABHIRUP8.
More of this please!🙌
Watched a Bangla film “Mrigaya” streaming on Zee5 last night. It has its flaws but they could keep it fast and entertaining primarily due to the performances and banters within the team. One of the rare original cop-team adventures! Not a bad watch. At least it’s not a rip-off of Feluda/Byomkesh so full marks on that!

এইরকম সিনেমা আরো চাই গুরু ❤️🩹
A cop investigative drama where a motley group of uniformed men is hunting down a band of criminals is peppered with punchlines & claptraps that culminated into a massy & explosive climax.Emotional pull is undercooked due to the rushed treatment but Mrigaya is a refreshing fun!
Movie Review (Mrigaya) 🍿
It's not important what the story is, how you tell it that plays the part. Mrigaya can be a boring "aantel cop drama like hundreds of other bengali films, it could have taken that route but there comes fresh minds like Abhirup Ghosh.
The film starts with a very interesting as well as heartbreaking note, we see Saurav Das as a menacing villain. How ruthless that character can be is established in the very starting. What his motives are & why he's like that that unfolds as the story progresses. On the other hand, we have Ritwick Chakraborty who plays "OC Debanjan Dutta", a witty cop & it's a delight to watch him perform the character on the big screen. Accompanied by Vikram Chaterjee portraying "SI Animesh Chaterjee" who although plays the role in honest manner but looked straight faced in many of the scenes. Anirban Chakraborty played "Rudra" a tech savvy police officer, his way of delivering humour added value to the film. All of them comes together when a brutal murder takes place in a red light area. How they do the investigation forms the storyline further. The camaraderie between the cops is a highlight of the film. Each character adds some kind of uniqueness to this mission which talks about the special effort that has been taken in the writing part.
Rest of the characters plays their part efficiently specially Ananya Bhattacharya (portrays one of the sex workers, Chameli) talked with her eyes. She made her presence amplified. Priyanka Sarkar, who has done the role of "Chhaya" is good as always. The kid who played her son was adorable.
Apart from the acting part, credits should be given who has written dialogues for the film. There is a beautiful balance between how the dialogues are very close to reality & as well as has its heroic moments too. The same has been done with the screenplay & treatment of the film. If you're thinking that it's just an action cop drama you are highly mistaken.
Mrigaya talks about the social indifferences, racism, & many other factors of the society in a subtle manner, it's not something in your face. Although, they could have shed more light on this. Talking about the music of the film, the songs adds to the story & has a heart to it. The item number although could have been far far better. It's a weak composition. Having said that, Susmita Chatterjee did her part well.
Yes, there are minuses too in the film. The introduction scene of Vikram was cliched & could have been designed in a better way. Although Rezwan did well in the action parts but in the majority it seemed the actor is overacting. That's the reason his & Anirban's constantly trying to pull each other's legs, their dynamics, didn't work that much. At some points it became irritating. The item number too could have been avoided. Apart from that, some of the scenes reminds you of other commercial movies & maybe they have given homage to it but it looked repetitive as we have seen that god knows how many times previously! The bgm too is weak, they could have focused more on that part.
The film takes it pace when it kinds of become a road movie. But what's the HIGHLIGHT of 'Mrigaya' is thinking of actors who have hardly done action in the past & making them do raw action sequences. No other filmmaker imagined him in Ritwick's 18 years of career that the actor can pull off such action, can be portrayed with so much swag on screen, Abhirup Ghosh made it happen. Same goes for Anirban as well, to see him doing action and such conveniently is applaudable. The climax part has been brilliantly shot & showcases the effort the entire team has taken where this is not something which is bankrolled by any big prod house. Still to give this kind of output is really encouraging.
Overall, Mrigaya gives you that hope that directors like Abhirup Ghosh exist in the industry. Whatever cop dramas has happened recently, 'Mrigaya' topples all of them.
