A total of 12 transmission towers impacted along HWY 36 - 7 bent or sheared off, 5 completely collapsed.

Likely a cascading effect after the first one failed.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as our crews work to assess the damage from yesterday's storm and prioritize repairs. Following patrols this morning, we have identified damage on five transmission lines with a number of structures down and requiring repairs.

We are currently focusing efforts to repair and restore one specific transmission line that will restore power to the remaining customers in the area that are impacted. Our current estimate for this restoration is 11:30 p.m. tonight.

We continue to work closely with @FortisAlberta
to get power back up safely and as quickly as possible. We’ll share more details as we have them.

As a result of the severe storm that went through the Brooks area yesterday, we have several damaged structures and downed transmission lines. Last night our crews were on site working to remove any public safety concerns related to downed wires and begin assessing damage. Patrols are underway this morning to help us identify and prioritize repairs.

We’re working with @FortisAlberta to restore impacted customers safely and as quickly as possible. Please stay clear of any downed power lines and report them immediately to 310-WIRE (9473).

Transmission costs are a significant part of Albertans' utility bills and that's why our government has taken action to protect ratepayers from seeing those costs rise, including:

✅ Encouraging more efficient use of existing infrastructure by maximizing the use of existing lines.
✅ Ensuring new power projects are built in optimal locations
✅ Assigning transmission costs on a cost-causation basis to ensure Albertans are not burdened with the full cost of any new transmission lines that need to be built.

Our government will continue in our efforts to ensure Albertans have access to affordable, reliable electricity they can depend on.
