Mission trivia: Butch and Suni are the first astronauts to ride an Atlas rocket into orbit since Gordo Cooper’s legendary Mercury-Atlas 9 flight in 1963. It was thrilling to see it perform so well!

Kranz never said it to his staff! “Failure is not an option” was written for the film Apollo 13, for Ed Harris playing Kranz. The real Kranz thought it captured the ethos of Mission Control so perfectly that he adopted it. It’s even the title of his (excellent) autobiography.
