IMPEACH THE JUDGES!!! New Mexico Judge Lucy Solimon freed Geraldine Begay as "not dangerous," and Begay was later charged with the August m*rder of Crystal Markum.

Begay, 52, is accused of st*bbing the 59-year-old at Albuquerque's French Quarter Apartments on August 21. Markum d*ed two days later, and prosecutors upgraded the case to first-degree m*rder.

Police say Begay was trying to st*b a dog when Markum told her to leave. Video later showed Begay on a walkway holding a bloody knife.

In 2023, Begay had already been charged with second-degree m*rder after a fight at the Lanai Apartments left a male friend de*d. A judge found her incompetent to stand trial.

Solimon then ruled she was "not dangerous," dismissed the case, and released her instead of committing her to the state hospital. The court later said the man d*ed of a heart attack and that prosecutors had not shown she caused his de*th.

The district attorney's office says it "sought to have her placed in a secure treatment setting and separated from the public." The state was given seven days to seek a civil commitment, and court records do not show that filing ever happened.

Markum's cousin Shane Brummett said, "Everybody loved her, though." He also told reporters it is "insane" that a courtroom is now deciding whether Begay walks again.

A judge has ordered her held this time. That order should have come before Crystal Markum had to step in front of a knife.
