Quite the opposite really, the cause unites "woke" leftists, westernized young mena diasporoids, conspiratorial quacks, or, increasingly, the cultural center left.

@wargonm Bien sûr, la dimension culpabilisatrice de ces mémoires existe et se combine avec leur fonction "utilitaire" (légitimer un nouvel ordre social et politique). Il n'y a rien de mieux qu'un péché originel pour fonder un horizon civilisationnel.

@LobmS_Y Les chiffres de 700 000 (puis 400-450 000) ont toujours inclus une estimation du nombre de Juifs périphériques. Le coeur communautaire a toujours été beaucoup moins nombreux. Mais vous avez raison sur le déperissement de la vie juive communautaire dans plein de coins.

@knish_of_death At one point he started to argue that mockery was a more dignified response to antisemitism than serious engagement. And then somehow, he thought this meant spaming every pro palestinian account (even moderates) with retarded 'hasbawoke' memes, regardless of the issue.

@ZacharyBraiterm @jewish_studies I see this kind of stuff more as a drive to redefine the terms of liberal Jewish identity (redefined as being subservient to the slogans of the Palestinian national movement) rather than a real questioning of the field's identitarian purpose

I don't know if "Jewish studies" are committed to the destruction of Judaism. But after having dabbled in this space for a few years now, it seems clear that a lot of these departments, sadly, often don't offer much more than identitarian pornography for liberal jews

@ZacharyBraiterm This also isn't helped by the usual epistemological flaw that can be found in all area studies. Where historians, social scientists, analytic philosophers, litterary critics, etc. are all supposed to evaluate and employ each other without unified evaluation criterias

@ZacharyBraiterm Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good scholars out there (historians, philosophers, philologists, sociologists, etc.). But I do think that, albeit not being systematic, it is indeed a systemic issue. And this isn't a claim that I am particularly happy to make.
