A lesson on how to treat teachers:
Trust trained teachers to meet the needs of the students in front of us.
Don’t create punitive systems for teachers who are not effective and apply to all teachers. This holds our best teachers back.
Be nice.
Thanks for attending my TED Talk.
@susangbarber I heard a principal say in an meeting “these new laws are going to limit classroom discussion. And anyway you shouldn’t be talking about sex in the classroom. If you’re teaching a poetry lesson, just teach the poetry lesson” I said “you haven’t read much poetry have you.”
I’m watching @MadMen_AMC again for the 1178th time and it’s so comforting to me and I love that I need these people in my life on at least a weekly basis. I need them.
(My first tweet since March.) I had an amazing day discussing the existential nature of Frost’s poems in one class and then the strange and bizarre life of Mary Shelley in another. Overall, it’s been a banner day. #lovemyjob#literatureislife
@KateySagal Praying for my husband as he is on day 5 in the hospital with Covid. He is not in ICU and is responding well to treatment. But I miss him desperately and hope he’ll be home soon.
@sebastianbach My husband is on day 5 in the hospital with Covid. He was unvaccinated; now he says he wishes he had not waited and would take the vaccine every day for the rest of his life if that’s what was required. Luckily me and my girls are vaccinated.
@susangbarber@apsupdate @GAEvoices @aps_we@DrLisaHerring We, in Florida, have been face to face since August, teaching in masks all day, can’t maintain distance in classes of 25, so kids are in masks all day as well. I’ve had to retrain myself NOT to circulate through and to limit group interactions. It’s been tough. Praying for you.
