I'd suggest it wasn't an 'error of judgement' that Johnson & Sunak said they were taking part in this pilot scheme in use by public bodies, it was a lie. Excellent interview with @ASLEFunion's @FinnBrennan on this, and masks on the tube.

Surely @grantshapps must realise ditching legal requirement to wear masks on the tube will make whatever is set out in the 'conditions of carriage' unenforceable. His stance will cause completely avoidable conflict & put many people off travelling on public tpt. @TfL@ASLEFunion
To be honest if people can't even be community minded enough to wear a mask to protect others, we've got absolutely no chance of dealing with the climate emergency 🙄
The bizarre and purely ideological stance taken by this gov't re the wearing of masks on public transport will be a headache for me and fellow @ASLEFunion H&S Reps, but it will be a nightmare for many vulnerable people & will dissuade many people from returning. Rethink needed...
A reminder that vaccines don't mean we can forget about all the other defences against Covid. Vaccines are just one (albeit a significant) intervention that cannot be relied upon by itself.

The London Mayor @SadiqKhan has been 'talking' about mandatory use of face masks since 16th April. Making them mandatory for public transport passengers will protect key transport staff. It's time for actions not words...

"ASLEF does not believe that London Underground has fulfilled the requirements for genuine consultation with staff. We want to see services increased but this has to be done in a way that is safe for passengers and staff." - @FinnBrennan's comments: https://t.co/lyrPNDTxJs
This looks worryingly cosy, so much for social distancing here! Wash stations being installed at Marylebone station. Is this how the government are preparing for a ramp up of rail services? @chilternrailway@ASLEFunion
Rail unions have played a vital role in ensuring that key workers have been able to carry out their roles. However rail staff are key workers too and their safety must not be put at risk for the sake of symbolic actions by the government. @ASLEFunion@TSSAunion@RMTunion
However, transport staff must be protected while they are carrying out their work, to protect themselves and their families. The stance taken by the @transportgovuk is likely to have consequences.

The government's refusal to provide PPE to transport staff who enable key workers get to work is disgraceful. I'm proud of our @ASLEFunion members and all transport workers for the essential work they are doing. @MickWhelanASLEF#coronavirus
