In remarks, I emphasized the need for all stakeholders to accelerate measurable progress towards accountable and sustainable supply chains, especially in the sourcing, production, and distribution of natural resources and fast moving consumer goods.
Today in Nairobi, @DanChurchAid and Global Compact Network Kenya, together with @UNDPKenya, the @OHCHRKENYA and the @EUinKenya, convened the 2nd East and Horn of Africa Business and Human Rights Dialogue.
What will real progress look like over the next decade as we work towards accountable and rights-centred supply chains in East Africa and beyond?
Speaking during the East and Horn of Africa Business and Human Rights Dialogue, @dsolawuyi, Chairperson of the Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises, outlined six critical priorities that must shape the future of Business and Human Rights across the region:
🔹 Rule Clarity – Strengthening and regularly reviewing National Action Plans (NAPs) on Business and Human Rights to ensure they remain relevant, inclusive, and aligned with emerging issues such as artificial intelligence and evolving global standards.
🔹 Policy Coherence – Moving beyond policy adoption to implementation by ensuring adequate funding, institutional support, and nationwide awareness of Business and Human Rights frameworks.
🔹 Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships – Building stronger collaboration among governments, businesses, civil society, trade unions, academia, and communities to drive collective ownership and action.
🔹 Responsible Business Conduct Beyond Compliance – Encouraging businesses to move from a compliance mindset to a responsibility mindset by embedding human rights due diligence throughout their supply chains and business relationships.
🔹 Information Sharing and Digital Innovation – Leveraging technology and digital platforms to track, monitor, report, and address human rights risks and abuses across supply chains.
🔹 Capacity Development – Investing in continuous learning, dialogue, and awareness-building to empower businesses, governments, workers, indigenous communities, and civil society actors to understand and uphold human rights standards.

As we conclude this Forum, let us reaffirm a simple truth: economic development that neglects human rights will only result in further crises. Let us therefore continue to work together to shape a more just, accountable & human rights-oriented economy that leaves no one behind.
