@dieworkwear I don’t need for the US to be the best country in human history, emotionally.
The best case for it is probably from our Bill of Rights, the variety of our cultural output, our innovations in business and business organization, the extent to which we have succeeded as a refuge.
@jeffreytucker it is definitely nice to do so, and if it’s a good friend and you don’t have a good reason not to, I think it’s rude not to if the airport is fairly close.
Maybe a little less so if your airport has good public transit, which the ones around DC pretty much do.
No the felony murder rule legitimately sucks.
In GA, you sell some weed. Someone robs you. They kill your buddy. The death was proximately caused by you selling weed, a felony. Life in prison minimum.
Exact same punishment as stabbing a lady to death on the subway.
@neontaster is too fun a thing for these egotists to avoid touching, it’s gonna be a very fractured logic puzzle to figure out where the holding is, along the lines of the Seibert 5th Am decision where the “holding” is one sentence, six opinions.
In Maryland, it’s common for the steel rails to get a little bit wrong in extreme heat of the summer, slowing down rail traffic.
But I’ve never heard of anybody watering a bridge. Ever. Before today.
Today in the Netherlands they have to splash water on steel bridges to cool them down and avoid damage from the extreme heat.
The costs of extreme weather are grossly underestimated now and in the future.

there are two flavors of European disdain for the US:
1) who the hell are you Yanks to comment about our life in Europe?
2) why are you Yanks only obsessed about yourselves?
@japan_nobunaga US is an explicitly federal republic, and each state is considered sovereign, except when state sovereignty has been surrendered to federal authority.
If your English is strong enough, or you can get Japanese translation, I recommend sampling the Federalist Papers.
am vegetarian, kind of a squishy liberal/libertarian, I swear that these leftists are gonna have me hunting animals who didn’t attack me first with Ted Nugent in the backwoods of Michigan by the end of the year.
🇩🇪German feminist Verena Brunschweiger promotes the slogan "My lineage ends with me."
She calls on White people not to have children, claiming that Western pro-natalists only want to "control women, and keep refugees out."
Brunschweiger says Europeans are responsible for poor living conditions in Africa:
"So I would take all immigrants and refugees in because we ruined the world, so to speak.
We produce climate change, which makes life in Africa, for instance, miserable and horrible. So of course, why not invite [them] if they want to come?"
@RenaNetjes most of us don’t care how many dead bodies are piled up in the summer in your cities, we’re mostly focused on ourselves, but a few of us care about the world.
when we don’t pay attention to you, you criticize us for being insular. So I’m tired of us trying to win.
@PureLandNation@Empty_America my ancestor Philip Thomas was Cromwell’s hatchet man in the 1650s in Maryland, literally fighting with Lord Baltimore’s forces on behalf of Protestantism and the Commonwealth. People think of Maryland as a Catholic state but they omit the history noted above.
tokyo froze nobody’s rent and rents are flat because they build 100,000 units a year. nyc froze a million rents, built almost nothing, and the line for an apartment still runs out the door. one of these is a housing policy. one is a hostage negotiation
